Anyone ever had an O2 Sensor mount rattle?

I will take a picture of this tonight, but in the meantime... I have this rattling noise when I accelerate. I took it to the dealer for a diagnosis, and my dealer mechanic climbed up underneath the truck while I power breaked and tapped the gas to turn the drive shaft. Sure enough, he located the rattle, and it was an O2 sensor mount on the driver side near the front crossmember. I attribute some of the rattle to my flowmaster exhaust adding a little extra vibration, but regardless it is annoying as hell. Anyway, he said there was nothing they could do, but that it wasn't going to cause any trouble.

Has anyone ever heard of this or had it happen to them?

Thanks...

I am under the impression that if you install an aftermarket exhaust system, all it does is void the warranty for only the exhaust system. Hopefully they wouldn't attribute the extra vibration from the new exhaust to that thing rattling loose, but I guess I wouldn't put the idea past them. :fume:

I had a 2000 Yukon XL 3/4 ton, same rattle from the O2 sensor. I found that its not really the mount, its the sensor itself, where the wires go into the sensor, there is a metal collar, I just took a pair of pliers, and pinched the collar, rattle went away. Maybe you want to try that.

That sounds exactly like what I'll do! Could you take a picture, if possible, so I pinch the right thing?

And, my truck is out of warranty, so I won't be able to have them fix anything without it costing me an arm and a leg. Regarding my exhaust and other modifications, I have been fortunate that my dealer sees past those things and generally fixes my truck when it is broken :fume:

Thats a great idea!

I had my 02 sensor (pass side) rattle bad at under 30k miles and had the sensor replaced.

But now at almost 80k miles its rattling again :fume:

Id like to see where you crimped it too.

Glad to hear you might be able to fix it yourself...can you describe what this rattle sounds like? My truck has something "creaking" underneath the drivers side and it doesn't do it all the time. Might be the nerf bars, but could be something else, too. Let me know. Thanks.

The rattling sounds like a metal washer that is very loose and when you hit the gas, increasing the vibrations, the washer shakes and hits the metal around it. I wish I had an audio recording device, I'd play it for you. I got up under the truck, and was going to crimp it, but I think I was looking at the wrong thing... I need a picture bad, less I crimp my fuel filter or something :fume:

That'll work... I got up under the truck and played with the 02 sensor, and nothing seemed to eradicate the rattle. Still trying to figure out EXACTLY where it is coming from...

i have what sounds like the same rattle under my 2001 tahoe. i crimped the metal on the O2 sensors but it still rattled. when i get under the truck and hit the drivers side catalytic converter i can hear something rattling around in the exhaust. i took the O2 sensor out and hit it again and it doesnt rattle as much. i shook my O2 sensor and it kinda clanked around so i bought a new one installed it and still the d**n thing rattles. i dont know if all the O2 sensors rattle like that but i dont want to spend $240 replacing all four of the O2 sensors if thats not the problem.

MORE THAN LIKELY u need to REPLACE the catalytic converter. the insides of it are breaking apart (it's like a huge charcoal brick u see in BBQs)....and the pieces are moving around and jamming up the exaust flow therefore plugging it. they want ike $600 for a new one at the chevy dealer...huge rip..so i yanked it off myself....hollowed it out (lots of harmful dust!) with a metal pipe about the size of a broom stick... now...no rattleing noise..and SOUNDS AWESOME...REAL deep....sounds liek a v12! hahaah BUT... obviously will prob not pass CA SMOG .... so i have to get a nwe one anyways..ut at least teh rattling went away, sounds great, and doesn't shut off due to clogged exaust. the O2 sensors tell the computer everything...so u can't fool it.... so best to get a dierct replacement. i have nocticed u can get this cat for about $300 though...but not sure it is CA SMOG verified.

not sure if there may be excess low backpressure now also? so even though it sunds great and does run great...may be slight differences in amx power etc since everything is computer controlled.

hey all, just saw this older post....

i have the rattling bad right now. in Park and Neutral, i can give it gas and get no rattle. when it goes into drive and i give it gas, we get the rattle bad. my father-in-law suggested the Catalytic converter as well, i think he is right.

Does anyone know of a good aftermarket setup? i currently have complete stock exahaust and i'm thinking that if i have to replace the CAT.....may as well go the rest of the way back!
