Shutting off

I have a 2006 gmc sierra 1500 with 5.3. A few weeks ago my truck shut off when coming to a stop. I cleaned the mass air flow sensor and sprayed some throttle body cleaner in the throttle body. Ran perfect until a few days ago. Shuts off when coming to a stop and would crank back up after a few minutes. Then yesterday it shut off at the store and I tried to crank for about 30 minutes but nothing. Got a ride home and then went back to the store. Truck cranked right up but then broke down again about a 1/2 mile down the road going 45 mph. Sprayed some throttle body cleaner in. Cranked right up and drove it home. Any suggestions? I can hear the fuel pump coming on. My engine light has been on for a while because of o2 sensor I believe. Thanks

You did not mention your mileage, where are you at 200k or so?

The distributor caps from that era had a pretty high failure rate, that would be my top priority to replace that and see if the problem disappears. About a 10 minute job and part is cheap.

No distributor cap on an '06 5.3. I'd check wiring connections.. You need to discover if it's ignition or fuel related.

I would also like to add that I had my ignition changed about 2 months ago because my factory key was sticking. Changed the battery about a month ago.

In that case, that would be the first place I'd be looking.

Need to find out exactly why the light is on too - might lead you in a totally different direction.

Changing a battery shouldn't do anything aside from clearing codes, & resetting the computer to a "not ready" state as far as state inspections are concerned.

If it was problematic after a battery swap, I'd be highly suspicious of the battery cables being an issue.
