8 speed for 2017

It appears that for 2017 the 8 speed is only available for the 6.2? Can't get it in a 5.3?

I don't have an answer to your question but that is odd that they offered it for 1 year then dropped it (if that's the case)

I ordered a 2017 LTZ Z71 with the 5.3 and the 8 speed.

It looks like on DC it requires a 6,2

 

On CC it is available with 5.3 in several option packages.

I was looking at a double cab. Seems funny it is available on a crew cab but not the double cab? I thought all trucks were supposed to get the 8 speed in 2017? Not enough to go around? In 2018 the 10 speed was to go on the high end models, I thought?

To get a CC 5.3L with 8-sp you need to order the Max Trailering Pkg or a Denali. They are limiting it to high end models to drive sales of those models with features not available in lesser trims.

 

 

Max Trailering Package, includes 9.76" rear axle, 8-speed transmission with 3.42 or 6-speed transmission with 3.73, (JL1) trailer brake controller, enhanced cooling radiator, revised shock tuning for increased control, heavier duty rear springs and increased RGAWR

1 - Requires a Crew Cab or Double Cab model. Includes (G80) heavy-duty automatic locking rear differential on 2WD models (already standard on 4WD models) and Z82 Trailering Package. Requires (L83) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine and (DPN) power camper mirrors. Not available with (Z71) Off-Road Suspension Package. Includes (UHN) 18" X 8.5" bright-machined aluminum wheels. Requires (RKX) 18" tires or may upgrade to (RD3) 20" bright machined aluminum wheels with either (RC7) or (QSS) 20" tires.

SLT

2 - Requires (RKX) 18" tires or may upgrade to (RD5) 20" chrome wheels with either (RC7) or (QSS) 20" tires. With (L86) 6.2L engine, requires (RD5) 20" wheels with (QSS) 20" tires. Requires (DQS) power adjustable, power folding camper mirrors. Not available with (GAT) All Terrain Package and (Z71) Off-Road Suspension Package.

i just got my 2016 1500 denali yesterday 5.3 with 8 speed tranny.

Denali is a different story, 8sp is only trans you get in 2016 and 2017 with either the 5.3L or the 6.2L. And Sierra Denali's only come in CC.

They do not make all options on all trims at the same time. Do not even think you can get a Regular Cab 17 period still yet. Could be those just have not had their build cycle yet like the reg cab.

8 speed only available on DC if 6.2

On CC it comes with GAT, PDT, NHT or L86 packages

 

So SLT CC 5.3 will get 8 speed if GAT, PDT or NHT are ordered. (on a CC SLT)

 

From guide, for SLT 1500:

M5U Transmission, 8-speed automatic, electronically controlled with overdrive and tow/haul mode. Includes Cruise Grade Braking and Powertrain Grade Braking

1 - Included and only available on Double Cab models with (L86) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. Included and only available on Crew Cab models with (GAT) All Terrain Package, (PDT) SLT Crew Cab Premium Plus Package, (NHT) Max Trailering Package or (L86) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine.

All 2017 1500 Denali's get the (M5U) 8 speed.

Just bought a 2017 SIerra SLT 4x4 5.3 crew today....came with 8 spd....it fell under the All Terrain Package.

Hell yeah. Got mine 7 months ago. Still surprises me when I have to floor it. This truck is almost as fast as my m3. Stock tune makes it really easy to forget how fast it is.

I haven't even floored it yet, 3/4 down from a 2mph roll and I'm at 60mph and through 3 gears before I can blink...

Can't imagine getting a tune/intake/exhaust/etc....my old 5.3 feels like a dog....no offense to current 5.3 owners...

Same here. Gonna wait for the warranty before I tune it. Definitely needs a tune.
