Suck but sounds like you were hit by undocumented special guests. Get it repaired and trade it in before the dirty Carfax hits and destroys your resale value.

I'm rather concerned about that. Hitch took 99% of the blow. So much so that it appears to have shifted forward on the frame by about 1/4". And this may be entirely in my head, but I swear the driver's door is ever so slightly harder to close, and it kinda "pops" open when I pull the handle.

I'd look at it very close, however these hitches are very strong, but like everything, have a point where they will tear things up. Here is a picture of mine, hit and run, driver hit only the ball, going so fast it actually picked up the rear end and threw it to the side, warped the frame pretty bad since the hitch is bolted directly to it.

Here is a picture of mine, hit and run, driver hit only the ball, going so fast it actually picked up the rear end and threw it to the side, warped the frame pretty bad since the hitch is bolted directly to it.

With the tight tolerances on these cabs and relatively flimsy panels, doesn't take a lot of warppage on the frame to throw everything out of kilter.

Red cars seem attracted to these trucks. I would definitely keep an eye on the frame. I had a friend with custom heavy duty bumpers who was involved in an accident. You couldn't tell by looking at his truck that he'd been in an accident. However, his doors were very hard to open afterwards!

So that should equal jail time to the driver and a lawsuit to the owner.

Nothing criminal there. Its all Civil and simple property damage, not cheap just simple. Enough people are already sitting in jail for stupid shit not like we need more.

Same type of accident same to my parents car back in the 70's. Problem there was after the accident, the kid thought he was driving his friends car, that was until his friend found out about the accident and decided to report it stolen to cover his ass.

I am pretty sure giving 4 different names to police is criminal. Maybe not go to jail criminal but still a crime.

You state this like it is a fact. I usually say "I believe" or "IMO" if it is possible my comments haven't been verified. I understand that this accident happened in Kentucky where driving without insurance is criminal. Jail time is a possible consequence as Joe O suggested. I believe it should be against the law everywhere!

That is because it is not criminal. Work for the DOJ. Traffic offences are not crimes with the exception of things like vehicular manslaughter for which there is a law on the books. Insurance is only meant for covering your civil liability, some places it is possible to get away without having insurance or having so little coverage you may as well have none. You are 100% still liable even if your insurance does not cover it and can be sued in civil court; in fact this happens like all the time. The only reason it is mandatory is because the damage you can cause due to curb weight exceeds what most people can afford out of pocket. ie) Bicycles do not require insurance because they cannot do very much damage and most people can cover it out of pocket.

Driving without insurance in Kentucky is a fine. 2nd and 3rd offenses can carry more penalty including time, however this is because the court ordered conditions such as no re-offense within 5 years. At that point the penalty is not for driving without insurance but rather for breaking for the court order which is criminal.

Think of it like this. Getting a speeding ticket is NOT illegal. However not paying said fine or showing up for court can cause you to be found guilty when the court upholds said fine. This can result in a warrant however the warrant is not for speeding it is for failure to appear which is criminal. ie) Driving poorly is not a crime but pissing off a court or judge is.

*As far as undocumented immigrants go, that should not be a crime either but should just result in a one way ticket back home instead. Unfortunately Obama disagrees and they are given a free pass instead.

Exactly, as stated it is the court ordering the condition to not reoffend. Also 'may be' certainly does not mean automatic and most judges would not be ready to chomp at that bit unless you were a real **** on your 2nd or 3rd time in a short period under 5 years. They know as well as I do that enough people are already sitting in full jails for stupid shit or I would hope they do.

It would be like getting released from prison and having the court order conditions such as no drinking and then getting caught. The alcohol is not illegal but breaking the court condition is.

*I am not trying to argue I agree is is bad. Just pointing out the difference between civil and criminal and where that line is crossed.

Yeah since the driver of the Jimmy is clearly at fault, and actually has insurance, his carrier will be contacted early next week.

This. One thing you didn't mention is the lying to the officer, which would be next to impossible to prove as "language barrier" is an easy defense in this case. Except that I spoke enough Spanish to let her know the jig was up ;). That said, while I never witnessed anyone legally detained while I was there, at the time I left the 'yota occupants had not been allowed to leave. Granted EMS was still looking at them, and their car was not exactly roadworthy, but regardless it was clear that the officer wasn't quite finished with them yet.
