Well you're on your phone and I'm on my computer so it just takes me to the GMC site.

 

But, if you read it says between high and low traction areas on the first line. Meaning what it says in my manual where the surface varies and changes from snow/ice and dry/plain wet for when snow and ice melts. Nowhere on that or the manual does it mention rain.

 

Again, ya'll use it if you want, it's just not needed in my opinion for simple rain.

Well the link doesn't work. But, the reason it can say that is because it won't kick in 4HI unless it feels like the rear is slipping. So ya you can have it on auto ona hot sunny day because it has no reason to want to put it in 4HI. As others have said, the only time a full size truck will have problem in the rain is if it hydroplanes which no 4x4 system can help since the tires aren't gripping. As I said, my manual (page 9-49 on mine) says that auto 4 is for variable surfaces which means inconsistent surfaces. Like when it snows and melts and you have patches of snow/ice and dry/wet pavement where you might need 4HI on some spots but not the whole time. So anything that uses auto 4 for just simple rain is improperly using it. Again for the 100th time, I have yet had a problem controlling a truck in the rain anywhere from my '86 Chevy 2wd to my '98 Z71 and not my '14. And I used to drive wild as hell when I had the '86 (which was a manual) and most of the time of owning the '98.

 

I don't remember who said it, but someone said that they paid for it so they will use it. Well I have remote start on mine, but I don't use it every time to start the truck. Only when I want to warm it up in the Winter. So I'm not going to put it in auto 4 just because it's raining just because I have auto 4 when it's not needed.

Probably because you have a 5.3 with a 3.08's

We get it, you don't use auto in the rain. That DOES NOT mean there is anything wrong with it. And this website from GMC does not say specifically use auto in snow and ice. It does say you won't damage the vehicle when using auto in dry conditions.

On another note I use remote start in the heat of the summer as well as when it is cold in the winter. I feel you are selling yourself short by not using something you paid for, just my opinion. Your opinion is yours, stop trying to tell everyone else they should not use auto in the rain. It is a personal preference for each driver to choose. And no where on this GMC website does it say using auto in the rain is "overkill".

Actually I can make both rear tires chirp from a stop without power braking it. My '98 had the 350 and 3.73 gears and still had no problem. My '86 was a manual and I could spin it out anytime I wanted but I didn't because I adapted to the conditions.

 

You coming from a Prius you just want to feel manly for once so you want to talk down to the 5.3 just because you have the 6.2. I'm not going to get an LTZ or High Country just to get a 6.2. Also since you seem to know nothing about trucks you won't be using that 6.2 for towing so you bought it just to puff your chest out.

No you are adding something that is NOT there to support your argument. You have said in many different forums you don't believe using auto in rain is necessary. You are consistent, I'll give you that. But you are also stuck in the past. Your older trucks you speak of did not have an auto 4wd system we have today. You didn't have smartphones when you had your 86 c-10, do you have one now? Is it overkill? Or do you just use the phone app and that's it?

using your phone for more than just phone calls is overkill. It is not needed or necessary but you do it anyway right? That is very similar, on a smaller scale, to using the auto in the rain. Not everyone shares your view or opinion.

 

OP use all this info/bickering and make your own mind up. Yes you can drive in the rain in 2wd, however in 4auto it is a fact (not opinion) you have the ability for more traction than in 2wd.

I have never owned a prius, and I have never put my truck in 4hi in rain.

 

Basically the best thing you could come up with is just some random made up fact....
