Reverse light idea

So I wanted to add aux reverse lights. I also wanted to have the ability to turn them on if i needed light behind the truck or to flash anyone riding my bumper. So i have read about doing a relay with 3 way switch but that sounds like too much work.

so here is my idea.

I have already done the diode mod to get the cargo lights on with my reverse lights. Now if i switch the diode out for a regular wire the reverse lights should come on when i hit the cargo switch. If i do that then just wire the new revers lights to the revers part of the trailer harness i would get them on with reverse lights and when i hit the cargo switch. If i wanted to flash someone riding my bumper i could just go neutral and hit the cargo switch. Obviously would lose the ability to turn completely off but that's ok.

Does this sound correct?

I would be careful admitting (in writing) that you want to flash people behind you.... though the thought has crossed my mind as well.

The wiring idea seems legit. I'm more interested in following to see what you install for lights. I personally would rather have them on a switch so you can turn them on and off when you want, but I understand the ease of the "wire trick" as well.

I really do like the idea of a separate 3 way switch in tha cab just sounds like sooo much more work.

If you could fit some kind of small LED bars in your rear bumper, say where the steps are in the corners, could be a good place for aux lights. They would have to be low profile enough to still have use of the steps.

Three wires, one relay and a SPDT switch.

There a ton of info on this topic already.

But all you need is a jumper from reverse to cargo and you can do the neutral flash from the cargo switch.

That is if you were to do such a thing.

I have a solid wire instead of the diode. Reverse, cab, bed, and added two 1x6 led lights that come on in reverse( power from trailer harness) and yes have to switch to neutral to flash on the highway but it's awesome for working on something behind the truck
