If you don't have Android Auto installed. It will prompt you to install when first use.

If you have 3rd party Android Auto app installed that are not approved by Google for Android Auto, it will not connect.

Try with a data usb cable and not just a power only cable.

Doesn't the Android phones need an app for Android Auto? I am thinking its not plug n play like Carplay

I have Android Auto app. Works great on my Harley motorcycle and in the Sante Fe. Just not in my truck.

I don't know if you have a USB port in your glove box, if I recall correctly that port also works with android auto.

I've tried both ports below the radio and both ports under the armrest.

Have a 2016 Silverado LTZ. Have the projection tab on the radio. Plug in my Android phone and hit accept on the phone but nothing happens on the truck radio. What to do to get it to work?

There is a strong possibility that it needs a software update that can only be done by a GM dealer. I know when I bought my 2016 LT back in May of 2016, I couldn't get Android Auto to work on mine. My truck was built in Dec 2015. It took the dealer a couple hours to do the update as they ran into some issues but they got it done and it didn't cost anything to do. I have heard that if you want it done now though, they may charge a fee but not sure how much.

ETA: I just found this service bulletin that confirms that if update was not already done  there will be a charge to perform.

I laugh every time people says ONLY the "dealer" or "site sponsor ", they the only one that can do it...  is this forum run by GM Customer Advisor? Sometimes I wonders....

Dealer will quote anywhere from $120 to $190 just to update/reprogram your HMI (I know because I called and got different quote before). Some dealer will charge a $90 (around the price) diagnostic fee even though all you need is an update.

Get an obd2 with pass thru, there are cheap one around $120, get AC Delco SPS service for $40 and you gain access for 2 years. For $160, you can reprogram any modules on your truck, plus you now have an OBD scanner.

Edit: please note, if your truck is under warranty.  Let the dealer take care. If it's out of warranty then do it yourself.
