Tailgate lock does not work after removing my tonneau cover

I told my fiberglass ARE tonneau cover yesterday and let the buyer take it off himself to install on his truck. I was working so let him do his thing. The tonneau cover locked and unlocked with my key fob. I saw that he did remove a harness, most likely thinking it had to with the locking mechanism for the cover, but now my tailgate does not lock with my key fob. Did he take the wrong harness, or could there be a different issue?

You need to take a look and see what is still there. Reference the owners manual to see the harness that runs from the bed to the tailgate.

I am waiting for an aftermarket tail gate remote lock because my 2015 Denali didn't have that feature. Are you sure your tail gate ever locked with the Fob? You said the tonneau cover locked with your key fob in your post.

I could have sworn it did but now that I am thinking about it I can't say I'm positive.

I"m finding out more as time goes on. I got an aftermarket kit but it doesn't work. My tailgate didn't lock/unlock with the key fob. Just the key. My truck has a rear camera and that seems to be part of the problem for the remote lock not coming stock. I tried hooking my new kit up as per the instructions. Didn't work so I called Tech support and he gave me different wires to try. They don't work either. I think I have the same truck as you do. 2015 Denali 1/2 ton (1500)
