What kind of valuable info have you found on the forum here?!

Even before getting my first new Silverado (2016 LS Regular Cab 5.3L) I had some specific modifications in mind and Google led me to this forum. I was initially searching for some general info on tire sizes as well as lowering however after much reading I have come across so much more useful information I probably wouldn't have found otherwise since some is not in the owner's manual and I didn't read the whole thing anyway! Some of what I have learned that has been very useful to me...

1. You can buy OE Replica wheels for a lot less than OEM wheels and you can in fact put a 305 tire on a 9" wheel with no issues even though the tire shop says no.

2. If you get a vibration after installing lowering shackles it's a good bet pinion angle is out of whack so you need shims.

3. you can't just plug n play most options that didn't come with your truck due to the computers however there are places that can assist you in doing so.

4. It's not my imagination..the factory shocks/struts are terrible

5. You need to hold down the phone button for a couple of seconds in order to use voice commands

6. The IOB Infotainment center will not support an external disc drive for playing dvds however if you rip them to a hard drive and plug in through usb they will play.

7. A member here had already figured out how to add a remote self opening tailgate using the factory key fob which saved me a lot of time/frustration trying to figure it out myself!

8. The reason the truck slowed on its own was due to the grade brake however you can defeat that.

9. It wasn't my imagination that the transmission shifted goofy in certain situations at slower speeds however if you drive in manual 5 with the traction control and grade brake as well as Stabiltrak turned off the transmission shifts firmly without all the jerking etc (also found out the Stabiltrak automatically comes back on at 35 mph and you have to turn everything off each time you stop/start the truck)

10. It's easy to remove as well as color match emblems yourself

11. Most modify their trucks for the same reasons I do...it doesn't always come from the factory equipped exactly like you want and/or you just like to personalize it to your tastes/driving style etc

12. It's super easy to replace the standard black door handles and mirror caps with color matched ones

13. There are waaaay more accessories/options available than I would have ever imagined!

14. Even if the service department says it can't be done search the forum anyway as it's a strong possibility that somebody here has in fact figured out how to do it!

I'm sure there is much more I can't remember right now so I'll add it later.

Thanks to all that have provided this most valuable info and feel free to add what you have learned here that you may not have found out about otherwise!

Before adding shackles and removing spacer block (didn't like the chrome door handles I added so they got replaced quickly)

Gold Bowtie emblems didn't match well so I color matched the front one as well as the ones on the wheels and removed the rear one

I thought the factory had forgotten to put the LS emblem on the rear but turns out only LT and LTZ trucks get those now so I added that myself

The one on the right under the screen and I have only used it to make calls so I don't know what if anything else it allows you to do

very nice truck. still my favorite body style for the Chevy's. question, did you color match the bow tie in the center cap of your wheels, or did it come that way?

Thanks and I color matched those myself as well using the custom mixed rattle can kit you can get on eBay or Amazon along with Duplicolor primer/adhesion promoter to get it to stick to the chrome.

Looks like the twin to my truck, Big Blue

Thanks for a few ideas

Where did you get the color-matched door handles?

You're welcome and I picked up the complete OEM plastic set on eBay however I also came across a site online that reproduces them in paint matched billet aluminum (they were crazy expensive)

Out of curiosity I tried some other commands and found it will read text messages, send text messages and allow access to your voicemail. I don't have music on my phone so I don't know if it will allow access to that. BTW, this is all via Bluetooth with an Android phone but I'm going to try it later connected to the Android Auto to see how that works.
