I had my own adventures courtesy of Uncle Sam several decade ago, but I like to keep things in perspective. Just went and saw Hacksaw Ridge at the theatre last night. It is always good to be reminded of what others that came before me did to make sure I could sit here and write this on my laptop. Tough to watch as many old feelings that I had spent decades keeping under wraps returned, but we all need to be reminded from time to time that this whole experiment called America is bigger than our own petty little interests like the government regulating our lives from cradle to grave, that we can get the government to forcibly take other people's money to pay for college degrees that have no meaningful value, and get government to stick it to others that we don't happen to like or agree with.

 

Doesn't matter if someone was a grunt in the mud, a mechanic on the line, a supply clerk in a warehouse, a pilot taking a slick into a hot LZ, etc. We all needed each other, and when things got bad, all we had was each other. And though in the thick of it we didn't focus on grand ideas like Mother, Country, and Apple Pie, deep inside we all knew that what we were responsible for something greater and better than ourselves and to each other. And sometimes we need to be reminded of that, before we completely lose it.
