Gas mileage with bigger tires

FYI if you want to keep your gas mileage pretty decent, dont put a grill guard on... dropped mine from 19 down to 14-15 on the highway. So I took it off.

Grill guard was a much bigger hit than the tires were.

Dropped about 2-3 mpg across the board going to 295/70/17 Toyo RT's and Method wheels.

Which methods are you running? I'm looking into the Method NV's.

Stock 265/65-18 tires I got right around 17 mpg. That's 90% city driving. With my 2" leveling kit and 275/60-20 Cooper ATP's I am getting right around 15.5-16.

are those LT tires or 4 ply?

Doesn't say LT so I'd assume 4 ply but I'm not really sure. load rating of 115 so that's 2679 max weight.

If they show LT they are 10 ply. So your tires will be a lot better in town because they aren't as heavy as 10 plys.

Those are good mileage numbers for having bigger tires!

Thanks, I have no need for 10 ply or load range D/E tires. I'm happy with the mileage I'm getting in these as well along with the look of em.

Thats pretty much what i got at stock as well. I got up to 19 a couple times, but avg was mid 17s to low 18.

I have 275/60R20 Duratracs with black rhino wheels. Im hauling my old tires and 150lbs of salt at the moment, so once i get rid of the tires and gas up again ill be able to see what i get

Idk lookin like i took quite i hit here during the winter time. Granted this is only 1 fill up, but i got the old tires out of the bed and its just the salt now.

Filled up last week i believe, currently at 1/2 tank and right now the DIC is telling me roughly 13.9-14.1

Probably would be better with some highway miles but i just go to n from work, about 30 miles daily nothing but stop n go several red lights

Winter blend gas sucks. There is definitely a significant MPG drop just from that. That's why most people state their "summer mileage". Not a scientific number, but I believe I average 2-3 mpg less when the winter gas comes out.

Yeah my summer is between17-18, i can get 19-20 on a good flat stretch but its hills and mountains here so thats hard to come by.

Not too much worried about it because i love how my truck looks now so if thats the sacrifice ill take it.
