Cleat coat chipping?

Recommended Posts

Bought a new 2016 sierra crew cab in summit white, I noticed the clear coat chipping very easily. My truck is actually covered in tiny rust spots everywhere on the truck and was wondering if anyone is experiencing this? or has heard of such problems with clear coat/paint?

Where on the truck? Front end? The paint is very thin on these trucks. Many people get a clear bra added as one of the first upgrades. Some have had luck getting the dealer to repaint the truck, some have been told too bad, its wear and tear. Take it back to the dealer and see what theyre willing to do.

I have an appt. in a week, The spots are all over the hood, the tailgate, the roof, and the front end fenders. What exactly is a clear bra, and would it even matter if I really do have rust spots? I've owned the truck for 4 months now, and I feel like they gave me one that was brought back various times since I bought it w/ 300 miles on it. Sound familiar?

I'm willing to bet your "rust spots" are rail dust. Just iron ore that blows in the wind and gets stuck on your vechile. The moisture will make it rust. It's not the truck that's actually rusting. A good cleaning with a claybar will fix that for you. Google rail dust and clay bars.

Thank you so much for your advice. I did this a couple days ago, and sadly I don't think this is the case. I'm positive the spots are under my clear coat now. Now that i'm paying closer attention to detail of the body, I noticed I also have chrome flaking and peeling on the rear bumper. More and more i feel my truck has a paint issue.

Nope could have easily been a dealer swap. I live near Atlanta and the truck I wanted was in Alabama so it had 279 miles on it when I got it.

Clear bra uses a clear film to cover the paint on new vehicles. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3M-Automotive/Aftermarket/Our-Brands/Scotchgard-Pro-Series/

Sorry for the late response, I tryed uploading pics but their too big from my phone via email. How do I upload them to show you?

Seems pretty much impossible that your truck is rusting if it's a 2016. I paint in Canada in a salted road city and have never seen that.... Ever. You don't even have snow or salted roads.

Are you sure it's not sap? Or road tar?

This is a picture of my rear bumper. I tried to focus my phone to get the rust spots but they are too small to get them visible, theyre about the size of a pin point and scattered everywhere on the truck, mainly on the hood and roof. My appt. is this monday so i'll have an update on that. As for my chrome bumper, or... peeling chrome bumper, this is it :(

That just looks dirty to me. Try washing it with an all purpose cleaner and using a clay bar afterwards. Post the results.
