One Year and 20,000 later!

Well I've had my truck for a year now and have put a little over 20,000 miles on it. Ive got to say this is the best vehicle I've ever owned bar none!! It gets GREAT MPG, plenty of power, and I've had absolutely NO issues with at all. I get plenty of comments on it's looks and I love keeping it clean. I just love looking for excuses to drive the thing! :chevy::flag:

This is just one of the reasons I love my truck! My lifetime average with over 21,000 miles is better than 20MPG.

Yea, that was on a hunting trip to Pheasant Camp. my buddy has a Tundra and was following me. The best he could average going the exact same speed was 16.8, that's a HUGE difference!

Nice UplandPa, glad to hear the goodness, I will admit after sound deadening my truck its been even more awesome to drive, its so quite now I can hear the door switch/s panel rattle with the radio up, sigh' pull the door panels back off add more foam/CLD/. My fuel economy is about 15mpg but every time I take it out I pound on my 6.2, 8 months 1,390 miles I never drive it lol.

Can you elaborate on your sound deadening process?

when I get off my can to post pics in a thread, takes some time to load, edit, then add them here on this site, also I noticed how much quicker the truck cool/heats depending on the season, truck stays cooler in hot summers here in TX, and so far it finally reached freezing temps this week,.

CLD - thick and extremely heavy (choose this for cost reasons, decent for the money)

Kuncoptz Kno Knoise - Kolossus Edition 150SQFT 100mil CLD = http://www.knukonceptz.com/mobile-audio/sound-deadening/kno-knoise-kolossus-edition/

Foam/MLV comb - best, thick and extremely heavy (no other good substitute IMO in the market place) not easy to get under my door panel's.

54 SQFT (aka its 75lbs) of Second Skins Luxury Liner Pro aka 6 sheets = http://store.secondskinaudio.com/luxury-liner-pro/

Rolls and rolls of foil tape.

2 kinds of foam:

Stinger RKO12 Overkill 0.25-Inch Foam Damping Mat = https://www.amazon.com/Stinger-RKO12-Overkill-0-25-Inch-Damping/dp/B001TH8OCE

Noico foam Russia stuff I think, ok foam but really thin, really good for the roof, head liner needs thin foam since the CLD was thick = https://www.amazon.com/Noico-Insulation-Self-adhesive-Deadening-Automotive/dp/B00URV8MFC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1482105524&sr=8-3&keywords=closed+cell+foam

I used the Russia foam to pretty much minic the Focal BAM and soundskins CLD & CC Foam comb.

Tools, buy nice tools to roll CLD and foam.

Everhard rollers: best quality hands down, roller bearings, not metal on metal roll pin like all the other brands, would not bind up after heavy used or pressure, trust me I purchased other rollers.... they found their way to the trash can. buy this brand =

all around great general use roller. (you really want the 22H for tight places)

https://www.amazon.com/MR05029-Everhard-Ergonomic-Silicone-cushion-grip/dp/B004VMVIUE/ref=pd_sim_60_10?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B004VMVIUE&pd_rd_r=63RH3WGA4Q3YJX3P91D0&pd_rd_w=a3DH0&pd_rd_wg=TKy0z&psc=1&refRID=63RH3WGA4Q3YJX3P91D0

or wood handle exact similar to the 22H just no silicone handle=

https://www.amazon.com/MR05020-Everhard-Silicone-Rubber-Roller/dp/B008GVQ8LA/ref=pd_bxgy_469_img_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B008GVQ8LA&pd_rd_r=MYCDYSN2YB22ZPH2K3J8&pd_rd_w=2bqUo&pd_rd_wg=LLhoW&psc=1&refRID=MYCDYSN2YB22ZPH2K3J8

Beast mode heavy & solid unit, nice for flat surfaces =

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IGGT4NO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Smooth rolled corner area's didn't use this much =

https://www.amazon.com/MR02150-Everhard-Steel-Roller-Radius/dp/B007IKWOI6/ref=pd_sim_60_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B007IKWOI6&pd_rd_r=ES0K372HN2EWGQCKNMSP&pd_rd_w=2Ys6v&pd_rd_wg=nTzoE&psc=1&refRID=ES0K372HN2EWGQCKNMSP

I did test demo sections of CLD & foam comb..

This would work best in headliners and door panels. I fould that Kunkopectz was really more like butyl rubber, almost no mess and could peel away for repair if needed so I choose to not use the CLD & CC Foam comb. the cheaper stuff with more asphalt would leak and stick to everything.

Both these brands used what felt like more asphalt in the CLD material and it was extremely thin, but I think it was designed this way as stated for head liners and door panels.

Not worth it unless you have experience with it imo.

I've done it before. Took a lot of labor, was a pain to get everything to fit correctly and put it back together, and it didn't sound much different. I used good stuff and stripped the whole interior down to the metal and put it back together. Was a huge waste of time and money and it added weight to the vehicle.

If you know what you're doing it might be worth it, but for average joes in an already quiet interior, it's literally the last modification I would ever do to my truck.

TG,

Understood, I'm not that handy disassembling interiors, I was more curious looking for and easy project. This is not it but thank you.

Agree! about the interior as I will do more damage than good!

I am 100% glad GM is going the route of being the quietest vehicles on the road! I support that effort 100% Can't wait to see the next rendition of the Silverado/Sierra's hopefully they can kill that damn FERD finally!

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
