5.3 Engine on GM

I did not state I had seen more threads about 6.2's grenading, I clearly said that some of them included 6.2's that had also grenaded.

That is the problem when discussing something... some will choose to read or hear what they think is being said, not what was actually said.

Maybe you have read every thread related to this topic here on this forum, but there is a much larger world of forums, trade magazine articles, fleet maintenance publications, etc. and much as some want to justify a pro 6.2 Eco position, the data doesn't support it. Good, yes, but nothing to confirm long term reliability.

He said the l83 is closely related to the vortec 5.3, that's completely untrue, it's widely known, and will not hesitate to call someone a liar if they present bad information on a public forum as a fact. Even worse is when they know enough to appear knowlegable on the subject. This forum is not just a means of socializing, it's a database of information that people will look at for help.

Now included in this database of information is that "the 6.2 gets the same gas mileage". GM's website will show there is a difference between all three engines choices. This "public forum" will also show that you personally have "seen them all" when referring to threads about the 6.2. This is a common expression but a very difficult fact to prove. These discussions are based on personal understandings and we as readers can agree or not. Having to footnote or prove statements that we believe true will only serve to stifle discussion. I also appreciate I should not interfere but it bothers me when good topics turn into needless arguments.

The issue with your opinion, is that you "read" all of these forums, trade magazines, and fleet maintenance publications........but you also state the "l83 is just a "vortec 5.3" with direct injection."

It's just abunantly clear that you are not knowleable at all on these engines. It's one of the first things most of us learn about these gen V engines since the LS platform engines have all been extremely similar for 20 years of production.

Basically, I'm just calling BS on everything you've typed in this thread.

I can't restrain myself from calling BS on someone who is full of it. If it ruins the thread, I'm sorry, I just can't stand it.

You are being myopic in your contention. I had stated right after a post following my initial statement on the 5.3 that it might be correct what you are stating.

Seems you are just wanting to pick at things.

I still hold the initial position about the 6.2. Nothing has been put into evidence to prove otherwise.

Do you find 58 mph avg gets you the best mpg?

Between 65 and 75 on the interstate seems to be the best mileage. The truck is geared at 3.23 at 75 it is well under 2000 rpm and the V4 is on the majority of the time when cruising even on slight grades. The extra torque and HP deliver good mileage when used correctly.

The Denali average speed calculation accounts for all remote start/idle/stopped at red light times etc that is why it looks lower at 58mph. The secret is to control your right foot, if you try to pass practically everything on the road (which you can) you will not get good mileage. Be like the highly skilled Black Belt you know you can kill everyone in the room with a single blow in about 30 seconds but you choose not to use that unless forced to. haha I LOVE this 6.2 engine / Peragon bed cover/ GM Borla catback / CAI and the Hypertech tuner. GITUSUM no need to get shitty gas mileage you are in control.......

The ONLY problem with the 6.2 is that it's only available in higher trim trucks. If it was offered in LT trim or the sierra equivalent EVERYONE would have one. The day it comes available in a standard cab short bed I will go buy four of em before they sell out.(won't hold my breath) And jfyi I wouldn't run anything but premium in the 5.3 as well as the 6.2. The 5.3's are 11 to 1 compression and really respond well to 91/93. All 87 does is have the computer pull out timing. And I will put my aggressively tuned 5.3 on E85 up against any truck out there. Because if it can't out run em I know I can out drive em.lol

I am a cheap person so I knew the 6.2 was a better engine just didn't want the extra insurance and fuel cost for the extra power. Do I go to bed stroking myself wishing I had it? you bet ya! But I wanted a topper instead.......So I put Premium into the 5.3 beast just to see if Placebo or it really made a difference......and yup that engine would much rather be sucking on Premium and it drove fantastic! It's a fantastic engine can't complain at all and the power is just fine for myself and what I need it to do.

Just traded a 2007 Suburban 5.3 for a 2017 Denali XL 6.2. The 5.3 in the Suburban struggled to pull my 6,000 lb. boat. It did go for 206,000 miles with perfect maintenance (burned a lot of oil the last 100K). Anxious to try the Denali with the 6.2 once I get a few more miles on it.

I was pulling a 3500lb trailer with my 6.2 and raced an unloaded '07 suburban from a stoplight up to about 60mph, it was neck and neck.

The main advantage of a larger motor is its ability to be be responsive even when loaded. I pulled a 3500 lb trailer regularly with my 09 5.3 and my truck had ample reserve power. I do not agree with racing from stoplights but your test, for me, does not speak well for the 6.2!

i feel the 5.3L is great engine with plenty for power for these trucks.i have the L83 with the 8spd trans and this thing feels like a rocket off the line.now yesterday i raced my friend in his 2016 Dodge Charger 392 scat pack car.i pulled him of the line and was nose to nose with him up until i missed my 2nd to 3rd shift.after that i was done and would have lost anyway.but my point is that these new 5.3L gm truck have some nice power.with the correct mods you can gain a 50+ hp to these engines and really wake them up.lastly i will say that these L83 with their 11to1 compression engines should ONLY be used with 91/93 octane gas, i don't care with the owners manual says.i am a old muscle car nut and 11 to 1 engines DONT like low octane fuels.

either way i love my 5.3L in my truck..........
