Truck Storage

Just wondering what you guys use for storing things like tie downs, tow ropes, tarps, etc. in your truck? Other than the standard truck tool box.

 

I use a Rubbermaid Action Packer and ratchet it down to the back of the truck for easy access. Holds everything I need and since I have a tonneau cover/locking tail gate I'm less worried about it walking off. Plus I don't keep anything that important in it.

I have an ammo box in the spare battery tray held in with magnets. I put some jumpers and a a couple tools. Zip ties, tape... Basically an emergency kit. I currently have a tool kit and a small bag with some hitches and tow strap and I think some bungees under the rear seat. I really like the under hood one. The idea is to put stuff in the that I'm really not planning on using so that I don't go digging in there and leave myself high and dry when I really need it.

That's a good idea! You don't find it moves around with just being held on by magnets?

No, I threw in a couple of the big 60 pounders. It's in there pretty good.

I just installed the Undercover Swing case. Loaded with jumper cables, tie downs, bug spray, and a few tools. It still has room to spare. So far very pleased with my Christmas present.

Require any drilling?

Yes. It comes with self drilling screws. I put it all together loose then removed all the bolts. I applied some automotive touch up clear coat to the holes with a q-tip to be sure I got the back side of the holes as well.

Last question: What prevents it from swinging open while turning? I'm assuming there's something to stop it from doing that when you turn.

There's a latch near the front of it that's released by the yellow handle. My only complaint so far is that the lock on top the box isn't very secure. It'll keep lazy kids out, but not much more.

Seems like a waste of money and time to me. For storage i want something practical and discreet. That thing looks like a pain having to remove it when i want to use the bed then have to load it back in when i finish hauling. Meanwhile taking things out i may need while hauling whatever.

milk crates on both sides of the bed attached with bungies to the tie downs. cheap. easily accessible. and keep everything organized
