Scanner? Oh I remember those! Can't use em anymore here, at least for Law Enforcement/FIre/EMS :( Everyone went to digital trunk systems :( Phooey.

73s.

Not the case but they certainly won't run $75-$150 like the good old days.

Yes it is the case. This is state of the art and unless you have a chip made by that manufacturer (GE/Motorola is what they use here) that connects to the trunking system itself and is registered with that trucking system, you won't won't hear anything. Not even the nice fancy $3000 state of the art scanners can track these anymore. This is not the old analog or first/second gen digital, this is beyond that. It's very cool.

Yeah, they have encoded digital trunking or something here...can't hear it anymore. They did keep the fire on analog repeat because so many departments couldn't afford the new equipment.

I have a Bearcat BC350 in a couple trucks and travelled cross county...neve had any issues, but I know some states they are illegal. I have a couple GREs right now, barely turn them on anymore because there's not much interesting to listen to anymore.

There are a couple other threads out there on this subject. Here's what I did with mine.

Mounted the antenna in the forward right stake hole.
Put my CB and scanner in the center console.
I'm looking for some black foam to dress around the radios. My next project for them is going to be installing my linear amp and/or HAM radio.

Last Friday, I FINALLY routed my antenna cable down the front-right stake hole, along the right-side frame, through the drain plug behind the passenger seat, under the carpet into the center console, and through a couple holes I drilled and cut into the console. ONLY TO FIND OUT that I needed one more part, a STUPID 90, end of the cable was a scosh too big. Stopped by Love's Truck Stop in Tehachapi, this morning, on my way home from Home Depot, and grabbed the very last part I needed. NOW, to tune my antenna.
