Thinking about doing something to give me a bit more growl. Stock is just to quit.

Whats my best option?

Looking for the best bang for my buck.

First would be to clamp your V4 valve open and see if it does anything for you. This is a valve in the exhaust pipe directly behind the muffler. This opens and closes under pressure. It is spring loaded like a throttle blade and opens up in V8 mode most and partially closes in V4 mode when there is less volume of exhaust gases passing through. This helps reduce drone and the "chopper" sound when in V4 mode.

I have never done it, but you just clamp it open with a hose clamp and see if you like it. This is usually the first and cheapest mod people try out.

Second would be a muffler delete followed by a resonator delete. There is a company that makes a muffler delete pipe I believe and you cut the muffler out and replace with this pipe. This will give you more growl at minimum cost.

Next people remove the resonator, which is just another muffler at the rear by the spare tire. I believe you can just replace the with a straight piece of pipe too.

These mods will give you the best bang for the buck in terms of more sound for little money. Start with the muffler and see what you think or start with the resonator. With the 3 cats on these trucks, you will be surprised how quiet they are with no muffler.

You can also cut some of the tailpipe off at the end and put as long as a tip as you can get in 3.5 or 4" diameter. The tip will also change the sound nicely.

Also remember that these cabs are far more quiet inside than older trucks and it might be louder than you think it is.

There are lots of videos on YouTube and this forum regarding all these topics and you can search for more information on each item I described.

If you still want more sound, or maybe more tone instead of volume, you will need a catback exhaust, gut the third cat or maybe graduate to headers for the most sound possible.

Good luck.

I just did the muffler delete and moved the resonator in front of the flapper (just put a straight pipe in place of the resonator location.... I left the flapper on and glad I did as the v4 drone / helicopter sound was too annoying to me with the flapper open. I also added a dual polished tips and it run about $160 in total. Sounds good overall definitely more aggressive for the cost... Would the GM Borla cat back sound better? Maybe but $1,300 was just not on my current expense list. Check out muffler delete chevy gmc on YouTube and listen on a speaker system to get a good idea of the results. Good luck on your choice.
