Get the insurance check for the highest estimate you can get then drive to a Chevy/GMC dealership that has its own body shop.

Walk into the showroom and make a deal on a similarly equipped '17(or '16 leftover) offering your damaged vehicle in trade in excellent condition (since of course that is the way they will presumably fix it) minus their costs for repair. Considering current heavy discounts, the trade estimate plus value of the insurance check plus the differential in moving up to a new vehicle might be feasible for just a few more bucks.......and you don't have to wait for repairs or future worry about appearance, diminished value or durability of the repair.

Showroom manager will deal with the body shop and determine worth after the insurance repair. Did it for my wife's smacked up Trailblazer and made a heckuva deal on a new Tahoe. Process is feasible especially for a newer vehicle since the dealership can always eat a large portion of the labor estimate, markup of the OEM repair parts and screw with the insurance company for extra bucks if it is their own repair shop.

Lol. The next time a wind storm rips off a shingle I'll just get a new house instead.

First off we live in Canada not the USA. If you do not have replacement cost insurance in BC ICBC will not approve GM parts doesn't matter if somebody else hit you you must have replacement cost insurance.

When I got rear-ended in my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 in February of 2015 I had $8,000 damage I talk to the lawyer doing my claim and he said we can't go after diminished value here in Canada

Let clear some of this up, 2 scenario's here. You get hit in both situations. one of them you file on the parties that hit you, the other you file on your own insurance.

If you are filing on the other parties insurance that hit you then you are not bound by how they want to handle the claim. Their goal is to get out of fixing your vehicle as cheaply as possible, that means using used parts and or non-OEM parts. They will try to push that route, but you don't have to accept their requirements.

Now in the other scenario if you are filing under your own insurance then you are bound by the agreement you have with your own insurance company. This is why if someone else is at fault I always contact and file with their insurance first, I don't get mine involved unless the other person doesn't have enough coverage or they wont pay.

So I guess you live in British Columbia and you know our laws in Canada. If you don't have replacement insurance you may or may not get them parts that is how ICBC deals with that s*** here

Still in the shop. The truck should be ready around Thursday. I will post a picture once the repair is done.

Now I'm driving a courtesy car(2006 VW VR6), man... I'm really missing my truck.

I got the truck back last week and the following parts are replaced with oem part.

1. Front bumper

2. Passenger side front fender

3. Headlight and fog lamp

4. Fender liner (or inner fender)

Total parts cost is about $5000CDN according to the bodyshop statment plus labor.

Thank you for all your advices guys. Now I'm enjoying the truck in snowy weather in Vancouver.

I'm glad everything worked out and you're happy with it now be careful and don't get it banged up in that snowy weather we have here it's pretty bad tonight at least in Surrey
