Turning Stereo OFF

I have a teenage student driver, on permit. Is there a way to turn the stereo off and not just mute it?

Hold the power button down for a couple of seconds then it will shut off completely vs Mute.

Ah, teaching your kids to drive, that was fun. Had both my girls learn in my '08 Sierra. Figured if they could drive a big crewcab, theycould definitely drive anything. But it was kinda scary to know the only thing I could do to aviod accident was to shove the gearshift into park or try to turn the steering wheel. But they both did great and was very proud. Heck, they both were hoping I would buy a new truck and give them mine after they got thier license.

 

Oh yea, to the original question, read you have to hold the power button down in the manual after trying to figure it out too.

Manual talks about Valet mode.

 

Anyone know if it is actually in any of these trucks?

 

Valet Mode (If Equipped)

This will lock the infotainment system and steering wheel controls.

It may also limit access to vehicle storage locations (if equipped).

To enable valet mode:

1. Enter a four-digit code on the keypad.

2. Select Enter to go to the confirmation screen.

3. Re-enter the four-digit code.

Press LOCK or UNLOCK to lock or unlock the system.

Press Back to go back to the previous menu.

EDIT: I was looking for Teen Driver Mode, when I found valet mode, but never did find the teen driver one (in the 2016 manual).

Depending on when your truck was built you might have "Teen Driver Mode". It allows you to set many things on the truck (including speed and volume limiters!) and tie it to a certain key so that whenever that key is used certain things are disabled. Check your Owners Manual for more info.

I've recently started wondering if "teen driver mode" could be achieved through a custom tune on an Diablo i2. The only downfall is the tune would need to be changed often for a while as parent and student went back & forth.
