Stock Flashing 3rd Break Light?

I have a 2016 midnight silverado ltz ccsb 5.3l 8speed. About 5700mi. I noticed today that my 3rd brake light pulses 3 or 4 times before going solid. I would like to think I would have noticed this earlier when backing into my garage or elsewhere, but can't say for sure if it has always done it. I checked a buddy's 16 ltz and his does not pulse. Neither does another friend's 14 lt. It is the exact same pattern each time the brake is depressed. Doesn't visually look like a bad led or electrical interference.

I did disconnect the battery a few days ago while I installed an Airaid MIT. Also, have a V1 hardwired to RAP. I don't see these as being relevant but just fyi.

I've never noticed a Silverado doing this and don't see any setting in the menus for this. Anyone have any idea? I would prefer it to be solid and am doing some research prior to calling a dealership.

This is the first I've heard or seen this in a GM Truck. I've seen this on other vehicles and thought maybe something changed in 2017... but you have 2016.

Interesting. I have also seen this on other vehicles and is a popular feature for motorcycles. Did you buy the truck new? Maybe it is an aftermarket add-on.

Truck was purchased new with 5mi on it. Midnight edition ltz with the ltz plus and convenience (lane assist etc) packages among other options. I doubt it is a part of the convenience package as this would then be very common.

Is there a little box thats attached to the wires when you take the 3rd brake light. This would be outside of the housing itself and attached to the stock wiring harnes.. I have had a few trucks in the past where the dealer adds on what they call a red alert package thats a blinking 3rd brake light a few times then goes solid. Something about it grabs the attention of other drivers better.

Alright, time to get to work on a Pnp kit for this. ;)

Confirmed dealer add on. One of these weekends I'll have to pull that out. Not a fan of the pulsing 3rd brake light, even if it may provide a minor advanced warning to cars behind me.

Thanks everyone!

Why? You can't see it but, more importantly, others can! It is not an option I would ask for but I'd keep it if I had it.

If I had an led 3rd brake light, I'd be tempted to add it on Anything that might help me avoid a rear end collision would be welcome imo

They are very annoying and makes me want to crash into the vehicle that uses one in stop and go traffic. Now.. On a little motorcycle that has a small ass taillight assembly, I can see it being useful. There could be an argument made that a flashing center brake light could be illegal according to emergency vehicle lighting laws. They are only supposed to illuminate when the brakes are applied, not flash.

My 14 came with it as well. I was curious for a while because I couldn't find another Silverado that did it and then one day I did so I assumed it was just a dealer add on!

Now, on the flip side of things, I am sure someone who has survived being rear ended and had all the aches and pain to go along with it doesn't give a damn how annoying it may be to those behind them. It's intent is good. Just.. annoying. Kind of like Diet Pepsi.
