Good Price in a 2017? Should I buy?

I currently have a 2015 F150 2.7 Ecoboost that's about half paid off. Love the power and the fuel economy the truck makes but like the Silverado body style better. So I found a dealer with some good sales and I wanted to see what you guys thought

2017 273 miles Z71 LT1 4x4 short bed V8 for roughly $37,000. But they are only

giving me 27,500 for my ford which I see private sales from $30,500-33,000. But I wouldn't pay taxes on the 27,000...

What's your guys thoughts?

"private party" sales prices are irrelevant to your trade-in value. If they are offering you full KBB trade-in amount then you can't beat it and its a fair price.

otherwise, you take your truck and sell it private party, then go take the cash to the dealer. And as you said already, this would require you to pay taxes, so it would add about $1500 to your out the door cost.

$37,000 is a good price on a brand new one. you'll have to run the numbers of both options and see which one is better for you.

True... my main question is if this was a smoking deal or one that I should pass on. I only want to change trucks if it's a smart decision due to a very good deal. The salesman says it's their red tag Chevy even and their sales are very low for this month so they are trying to move a few of these trucks.

I would still try to get more for your trade.

I've gone back twice.. first time they were at 27,000 then as I was leaving 27,500. Then went back and they were stuck at 27,500 but threw in a spray in bed liner on the chevy...

My truck is fairly tricked out because it's the XLT with the bucket seats which gives it the large center counsel which in my option makes the truck look much nicer and usually brings more money

Ran some number on blue book: in 3 years 2015 ford will be roughly $21,500 trade in value. 2017 Chevy will be $27,400 for trade in. So about 6,000 difference after 3 years and I will be paying $10,000 more for it now

No brainer - RUN away from the Ford - that's more than a fair offer - Get the GM - and stay GM..................

Have always had good luck with ford... and the ford is much funnier to drive (much faster and more nimble) but the looks are not on par with chevy(I like the old school truck look). If I could put the ford 2.7ecoboost in a Chevy it would be perfect for me

You obviously have not driven the 6.2L in a GM - highest rated V-8 in an American truck............ That's what is coming in the max trailer package I have on order...........

that price is lower than I paid for my "red tag" in june 2015.

of course you are paying more for a brand new one. it all comes down to whether you want to pay for the brand new one, or keep one you already paid half off.

Have you driven the brand new chevy? I think mine is incredibly quick and nimble for a full size truck. but you are the only one who can make the decision. Again, i don't think $37,000 is a bad deal at all.

I mean the ford is much more fun to drive compared to the hour or so I spent behind the Chevy 5.3 with their highest axle gear (towing edition)

Its not really fair to compare the cost of years #1-3 vs the cost of years #3-5. Of course the cost of the brand new one is higher. If you are money conscious, just keep the ford.

but you said they offered you $27,500. so in 3 years it would be down to $21,500. that's a $6,000 drop. The new one drops $10,000 in 3 years, so you are really giving away $4,000 of your money by moving up to the new one and trading it in in 3 years. new cars depreciate faster.

No I haven't but the 5.3 is my only option right now. The 2.7 economist I believe has a faster 0-60 than chevys 6.2 and my ecoboost gets up to 27 mpg on the highway at 70mph

Towing for me is a mute point because I only tow 4000lbs a few times a year but use the truck for lot of hunting , camping and fishing

I test drive the 2017 5.3 Chevy for about an hour and really got in to it a few times. It's the typical loud v8 which I like but when the turbos kick in on the ford it leaves the Chevy in the dust. This is especially true when the ford is in the sport mode (I had the Chevy in tow/haul mode when I got into it to see how quick it could be).

Have you drive the new f150s in sport mode to see how they handle?

My typical plans just FYI are a new truck every 2-4yrs. I did not buy the ford new, I bought it about 3 months ago

I think the price on the Chevy is good. I also think the dealer is giving you a good trade in value on the Ford. What I don't think is good is trading in a fairly new truck that is half paid off on a new truck just because you think it looks better.. You seem to like the Ford, especially the power and mpgs....I think in the long term you will be disappointed with the Chevy because it is well documented that the GM programming of the throttle response is pretty marginal; although a tune will fix that. I highly douby your 2.7 will outrun the 6.2; in fact the 3.5 Eco runs closer to the 6.2, but I digress. I get good mpgs on my 5.3 (26 mpg) going to Denver and 17 around town. Taking a bath on the Ford is not worth it.
