Body warranty - trim falling off

Recommended Posts

I just noticed the trim on my driver door is separating and falling off.

before anyone says accident repair...im the original owner and its all original and in good shape.

so what is the warranty period for the trim falling off? is it just under the bumper to bumper 60km or is it covered under the 160km rust and body / powertrain warranty?

canada not USA.

i realize it is just 2 sided tape holding it on but ive never had these fall off any vehicle before.

Good excuse to de-badge it........ All that trim and lettering ever did on my 2007.5 was collect dirt around it.......

It is just held on by double sided tape, eventually water intrusion, usually high pressure car washes can cause it to lift.

I removed all of mine because I hated the chrome.

this is the belt line trim, yes i know its just 2 sided tape, but it should actually hold on. ive never had it fall off any vehicle before.

im in fairly good with my dealer, im gonna see what they can do.

all the commercial 2 sided tape is thick and will make it stick out. i want to keep it on, mine is painted the same as the body and it will protect the doors a bit from dings.

Had an issue with my 2016 driver door lower chrome trim strip

. The end towards the rear of the driver doors was pulling lose. The dealer replaced the strip without question but of course I am still well within the bumper to bumper coverage. I really doubt that it would be covered past the bumper to bumper factory coverage unless you buy the extended warranty.

Just because you are the original owner does not mean no crash repair. Happens all the time to repair damage in transit.

thats handled on the dealer end of things, and they cant sell it as new after in canada. they can sell it as a demo.

I would ask my dealer. If you're past warranty and you have a good relationship with your dealer, they could possibly fix this in conjunction with other service you are having done. Also, there are many good adhesives beyond the hardware store two-sided tape variety. I'd stop by my neighborhood auto-body shop and ask for their recommendation. They may tell you that you need a new door ;-) or fix it right there and then for a token charge.

good call, i literally have a bodyshop across the street from my house, and the biggest one in town is a client of my office....didnt even think of it.

i may try putting a hair dryer on it and pushing it back on,,see if that will work till summer.
