And all this time I thought an Italian Tune Up was just a good ass kicking.

This is hilarious! This comment made my day!

I'm Italian, my relatives are Italian, my friends are Italian.........I've heard plenty of stories about Italian "tune ups" and they have nothing to do with motor vehicles. And it might not be such a good idea to walk up to the wrong person and ask for one!

Back in the '60s, Ferrari was using Weber carburetors on their engines. Weber's were great for high performance engines because they could be individually tuned for each cylinder and they could dump a ton of fuel into the engine when you stomped on the gas. The only problem was that you had to constantly fiddle with them to keep them in tune and if you didn't drive the crap out of the car, you would get carbon build up on the valves because of a rich fuel mixture under light load. The mechanics would recommend that you drive the crap out of the car (like a Ferrari should be) to loosen up the carbon. They called it an "Italian Tune-Up" since this method was so often used on Italian cars using Weber carburetors.

I second the catch can. Installed my elite engineering e2x catch can at 4000km and its at 15k now and ive emptied it 3 times and everytime has had oil/gas/milky condensation come running out. I would highly recommend the elite engineering e2x. However, everyone has different opinions about them, I can see from experience it DOES prevent crap from getting in the intake. Also you get what you pay for so don't complain when the $50 homemade one only catches 10% of the gunk.

In my company we have quite a few 2015 5.3 silvy's and a few are getting close to that 100k mark. When I run into the guys that drive them at meetings they have not had any issues out of the truck except for the low ground clearance which my company fixed by adding 2 inch spacer kits to them. Of course due to the spacer kit and the extreme conditions we drive our company trucks in most of these have had to had ball joints replaced more than once. My company has always advertised the specs needed and let local dealers bid for our business (buying 30+ trucks at one time each year) and the lowest bid gets it. That may change because half ton silvys just can't handle the areas we drive into because of the low ground clearance and ford is not much better so for us it may be a dodge or toyota half ton or bump up to 3/4 tons and take the mpg hit.
