Elite Catch Can for 5.3

Recommended Posts

I have a new Silverado 5.3 arriving soon and have decided that installing a catch can is a better idea than not installing one. For those of you in this boat: What is the best model (Elite) and set-up? I'm willing to spend whatever it takes to get the best system but don't want to spend on anything unnecessary. Is ex-2 the way to go? How many ports? With or without clean side apparatus? Best install location? Etc.

Following this as well. Mine has 19,000 miles but I figure better late then never.

"Best model" is subjective. Some like the E2 due to ability to open it for cleaning. Some like the E2-X for the extra capacity and valve for emptying.

If you want total piece of mind, go with a E2-X dual port kit (kit includes clean side separator and check valve). IMO, dual port is overkill, but that may just be my applications.

I have a 2016 Silverado 5.3 that I put a E2-X single port kit on. Mounted off the brake booster. I ended up taking the CSS off because I didnt like the look of the hose running over the intake to connect the valve cover banks.

I recently bought a 2017 Tahoe with 5.3. I put a E2-X single port can only on it. This does not include the CSS. After the order arrived, I found out this also does not include the check valve. I mounted this one off the radiator mounting bolt. It is much easier to empty in this location; however, you have to deal with the spare battery tray. I may relocate the one on my Silverado to this location.

I do like the OEM connectors on the UPR better. They look much more professional, versus the cheap hose clamps Elite provides. The hoses look better too. I honestly didnt research UPR much before buying the can for the Tahoe. If you want dual port and CSS, look at UPR also.

Don't really care how it looks. And I should mention that I live in a climate where below freezing temperatures for several months a year are a fact of life - in case that has any impact on install location recommendations. Also --- how did you deal with the ridge (barb?) on the engine inlets/outlets? Just butt the hose up to and clamp or attempt to attach all the way over the bump?

Best is subjective as noted, well really the whole idea of a catch can is subjective. Tons of threads on this out there though, if you do a little homework and searching you will find the answers to all your questions. All Terrain provided some good links

to sift through.

This thread should be in the modifications section, will make it easier for those who actually search to find this thread and others like it...

I just butted up against it and clamped. The pressure style clamps included squeeze tight enough to keep them from coming off. They will pull off if you pull hard enough, but they won't come off on their own.

I also have freezing temps for several months. Closer to the engine might thaw anything that does freeze a bit quicker or keep the can warmer longer to keep it from freezing. I had the Silverado over this past winter and had no issues with the mounting location. Just got the Tahoe so can't speak to whether the more frontal/remote location had any freezing issues or difference in condensation/water in the can. My vehicles might sit outside during the workday, but are garaged overnight so that might also be a factor.

didn't think I'd see this post from duquephart!

Never had an issue with the can itself, or at least the idea/theory of it, aside from the fact that it may void your warranty. Once a person is willing to assume that risk you are home free.

It pulls off in 10,minutes. Don't worry about warranty. They have no way of knowing you had it on

Best thing about it.

Best thing about it.

The best thing about it is that you can easily get rid of it?

That u can easily take it off...?

You're worried about warranty issues. When taking it into the dealer. He's saying it's good because if you have to take it in, you pull it out and reconnect the stock hoses. Takes about 10 minutes and there's no way they'll ever know

Anyway ----- anybody else care to answer the original questions? There must be many here who have installed on 5.3s.
