Some Neat Features on Earlier Trucks that Went Away on my 2016

Not sure exactly where to post this so feel free to move. I had a 2004 2500 crew cab that had a couple things that I thought were good features that are no longer incorporated on my 2016. One feature is the auto feature on the 4wd selector panel. I found it useful in marginal weather/snow conditions. Would kick in when needed. Why is it gone? The other nice thing I miss the trans temp gauge. I looked at it often while towing. Gone now.........Why? Can you guys thing of other items that were helpful but are no longer offered?

The 2500HD and 3500 have not had auto 4wd since at least 2001. The Light duty 2500 & 1500HD did have it. The auto 4wd is a 1/2 ton transfer case and wouldn't stand up very well.

How about rear ac? My 05 had it.

Went away with the GMT 900 series trucks. Around 2007, I believe. Some people complain about it, but GM hasn't added them back since then regardless of people's complaints. Maybe they will add them back when the new model comes out in a couple years.

I had friends leave gm for this in AZ.

I never really knew the difference between 2500 and 2500hd.......Thanks for that.

There no longer is a different 2500 and 2500HD. For a few years back in the late 2000's GM offered a "1500HD" (it was a crew cab with a 6.5-foot bed). Then for 2 years they rebranded it a "2500". Then for a few more years it went back to "1500HD". Now they only offer this:

1500 (1/2-ton truck)

2500HD (3/4-ton truck)

3500HD (1-ton truck)

I miss the N on the transfer case. On previous trucks when loading my snowmobile, I'd put the case in N, apply the parking brake and shift the truck into R. That way I'd have the extra light of the back up lights when riding the snowmobile up the ramp.

From what I've noticed that they've corrected the cargo light on/off stupidity of 1 of my previous trucks. I can put my finger on it, but they way it was switched, made you think, "Why'd they do that?"
