Fuel Sending Unit

My 03 'Hoe's fuel gauge is starting to act a little funny. Sometimes the needle stays near empty and the low fuel light comes on - even after just having filled the tank. I turn the engine off and restart and the needle is back to normal. My wife told me this morning that she heard the fuel pump making a whine (like my p.o.s. Bronco used to).

Is this common? Also, would this be happening because of the unit overheating from driving with the tank near empty and it being just too d**n hot outside?

Thanks for any input.

That's what I figured - thanks for the confirmation. I like going into the stealership with all the info I can get. I am sure they are going to tell me that since it didn't throw a code it isn't bad. Let the games begin.

Yep! I have put three of them in that way. Just slide the bed back and sit it on a saw horse.

My sending unit does the same thing. I don't notice any funny noises from the pump, although it usually runs pretty loud.

How much does the bed weigh, and how many people would I have to draft to help slide it back?

Not sure how much it actually weighs. We did it with three people on a full size bed. One on each side and one in the back. You will defiantly need to have some good gloves on when you lift; the bed edges are kind of hard on the hands.
