2016 Service Manual

Just received the 2016 service manuals I ordered for the Silverado from Helms. It also includes the Sierra. And here I thought it would be 500 pages or so. WRONG!!!! Turned out to be thousands of pages divided into 10 volumes. Looks like it covers 1500, 2500 and 3500 with the Duramax. When shipped, the box weighed 35 lbs.

Looks like I have some light reading ahead.

i guess you have never ordered factory manuals? atleast you can still get them. most of them are going to online and you have to pay to access it.

Problem with those damned things is they are written in government-ese. Can't get through a simple set of instructions for a procedure without referencing other chapters and sections. And the old diagnosis/troubleshooting sections are useless because they always reference using some proprietary piece of GM equipment to generate and monitor signals to test sensors, diagnose problems or reprogram modules. Avalanches have 4 manuals totalling 16" thick.....ditto with the Traverse....and that's where I gave up pissing away $400 a pop for books. My favorite is when they reference a part and show you a diagram, but there is no indicate where the heck the area shown is located on the vehicle.

I still have several older Dodge manuals that were listed online for the downloading...2001, 2004, 2005, and 2006. Those links didn't stay live very long...most times someone openly posted them on a forum specifically for someone to download, then that link was shared like wildfire...until someone pulled it (usually the forum owner, probably to keep from being sued).

For most of us, they are almost useless because these newer vehicles require special tools, code readers, and the like...

I use to use ALLDATA (which I think is linked to Autozone or something like that). They had up to 2014 and havent updated to 2015 yet. Their content was online, but had a lot of items missing. It was helpful, but very limited.

I own a 2017. But since the 16's and 17's are nearly identical, I opted to get the 2016 manuals to help and answer questions.

How much oil does that manual say to put in the engine on the 5.3 and 6.2?

The oil capacity for both 5.3L and 6.2L are:

7.6 liters or 8.0 quarts with filter.

7.1 liters or 7.5 quarts without filter.
