how do I find out what one I need? Rear Output shaft seal 2005 1500 5.3 L 4WD. looking for AC Delco one. Called the dealer and they want $80 for one. I looked online and there wide range from $6-$70.

I think I need GM part number 12547638

Removed the seal yesterday and it had uz5050f stamped on it. so it is 12547638 number. ordered one online.

put new seal in it and topped it off with fluid that was 4 weeks ago. looking at it today and tailgate has oil all over it. so its still leaking. what to do now? replace input shaft?

Check for a hole in the transfer case. If you replace the seal I highly doubt it's blowing past. I would look at the usual points on the case for pump rub.

Are you sure that its not the rear differential, transmission or engine leaking? Just making sure you are not missing something else is why I ask.

Checked the fluid and it's down a little bit. Not coming from the seal though. Leaking from transfer case some where else.

The hole will just get worse. There is a kit to prevent transfer case pump rub. And you can buy a new transfer case cover.

I think the people that tried JB weld had it leak again or the continued pump rub ate through the weld.

Search google or YouTube for pump rub fix.

What years had this issue? Also have a '10 Tahoe and wondering if that will have issues leaking?

so what causes this issue being in Auto 4x4 mode? or being in 4x4 or 4x2?

The freakin transfer case eats through its case!? Talk about a design flaw! I have the manual transfer case that spends most of its life in 2wd, hopefully not a problem.

after doing some research found a GM tech bulletin that says for them to just check the fluid and do not tell the owner about the issue, only tell the owner after the warranty expires.
