2015 Silverado tailgate question

Has anyone else had problems clearing the gap between the bed and the lowered tailgate after emptying dirt or mulch? The gap gets filled and normally, like my '01, when you close the tailgate the material would just fall down, past the bumper and onto the ground. Now the plastic bumper cover blocks that path and I have to manually clear the debris. If I don't do this I actually can't open the tailgate all the way because the material is still jammed in there. Has anyone trimmed that plastic cover or found another fix? Thanks in advance.

Not normal at all. Sounds like a bad collision repair job.

I have to clear that debris from there too. I always did though, I wouldn't try closing it when it is jammwd with top soil or wood chips.

My 16 is more prone to this than my 08 Silverado was. I just make sure i clean the debris out before I close the tailgate.

I've always made sure that the tailgate 'gap' is clear of debris. I had a couple of instances w/ my '11 where the the debris being pinched by the tailgate jammed it tight & it was a PITA to unlatch the tailgate.

Why not just buy a gap shield? There are a ton of them available from different manufacturers. Google it and you will find them online and at Cabela's, Home Depot, Amazon, etc. Here are 2 of the main ones:

Laying a tarp down first helps a lot with not getting small stuff in places you didn't know the truck had.
