How do I get that black trim off on the doors? I was in a small fender bender and I need to replace this piece on my pass front door.

Any idea where I can get it cheep?

Are there holes in the door once removed (thinking...take it all off)

There shouel be no holes or anything behind it. Just held on with double sided tape. Here's how to remove it: http://www.gm-trucks.com/IAR_decalremove.shtml

As far as were to find it, you may be able to find someone selling the trim they removed on EBay, but I doubt you'll be able to find just that specific piece. You could get brand new from the dealer, you MAY be able to get just that piece from them, not sure.

It would look good removed, but I like the little bit of protection that it does provide.

THanks!

I read that article before but never realized it was for that trim too, thought just for emblems!

I was thinking getting one at a junk yard, but that would be a mess to re-attach im sure!

I can't believe that whole thing is held on with adhesive.

Humm, now what to do, I kinda like the look of it,,,,like the protection, but wonder what it would look like without it!

Anyone have any pics?

It is not to bad to reaply the molding. Get some doublesided tape from an auto paint supplier. The tough part is to get the old tape off the old molding. Then hold the new redone molding in place and mark where you you want to put it with masking tape. Then pull the tape cover off the new molding and put it on. Just be careful as when it sticks it is stuck.

I used mineral spirits to get the adhesive off. I first wiped some mineral spirits on the adhesive, and then dipped a cloth in mineral spirits and used the cloth to nudge the adhesive. Mineral spirits makes it come off with just some nudging. It was time consuming though.

If you use a good hot hairdryer, it will heat up and come off. Or set it out in the sun or a heat gun. Once heated, it comes pretty well.

Just be sure that if you use mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol or such to remove the adhesive, and are going to take the moldings off, that you apply a good coat of wax to the area as you will have stripped whatever was on before.

Just get ready for more than your fair share of door dings.

I pulled all the trim off of my 92 right after I bought it, and have spent quite a bit of cabbage having the dings removed from time to time.

Note that it's still off, as I do think it looks a LOT better without.
