AC bogging truck down.

Dose anyone else have an issue with the AC really making a dog out of there truck. With it running the truck will barley get out of it's way. My wife's equinox dosent even notice the AC running. Could it be low on refrigerant causing the compressor to work harder? Also the truck is a 2011 with the 4.8 and has 103k miles on it. I have done the plugs and wires. And replaced the AC belt and serpentine. Thanks in advance.

My previous 2009 with the 5.3L would really notice the AC, but with the 2011 and the 6.2L it was like the AC wasn't even on, not much bothered that truck. This 06 with the 5.3L seems to notice it a bit, but it doesn't seem as bad as the 2009 was.

Good to know I guess. Could be working as designed if you wanted to believe that. How cold did yours get Daryl?

Every one of them have been ice cold, very good air conditioning in those trucks.

The A/C bogs my 2012 Duramax down big time from a stop, MAJOR turbo lag.

Yea definitely from a stop it is noticeable. But I wouldn't say mine is ice cold either. Has me wondering if it needs to be recharged.

Turn off the A/C when accelerating?

The only thing that would cause extra drag in the A/C pump would be:

Improper fluid type

Too much fluid in the system

Bad pump bearings

Improper pump pulley size

Pulley rubbing against something

Could be early signs of the AC clutch going out. Had a car years ago that did that and then one day the AC Compressor clutch finally locked up and the belt started smoking. Also had same thing happen on a work truck, a furd 150. .

So I cleaned the condenser in the truck with coil cleaner and the AC is working much better. If the coil is too dirty it can't transfer heat as well which leads to high head pressure and the compressor has to work harder. Therefore making the truck bog down.
