Left front wheel locks up

Hi Everyone,

 

I have been having an intermittent problem with my front left wheel locking up only when brakes are applied in an emergency stopping situation.

 

I have a 2005 Silverado with front disc and rear drum brakes. It is an extended cab short bed, plain work truck.

 

I recently replaced the entire front suspension and brake system which included new rotors, pads, bearings w/ABS sensors, the calipers are only a year old so I cleaned them and reused them. I replaced the rear drums, shoes and cylinders and new brake lines. I had all new stainless brake lines and braided hoses installed and the system flushed and bled.

 

Everything was working great until about two weeks ago I noticed the truck would pull hard to the left when braking. It only did this three or four times then never again. Then a couple of days ago I noticed the left front wheel locked up when the pavement was wet, again very intermittent.

 

Now it will lock up intermittently under hard braking but only occasionally. If it locks up I get the truck back up to speak and hit the brakes again and I feel the ABS vibration and the truck stops very well. No ABS or brakes lights not even a check engine light. What could be causing this problem?? Thanks for any information or help you can give.

Check the pad hardware and caliper glide pins on both front wheels. If one pad or one side is hanging up, it can cause uneven braking.

If the year old calipers were remans, its always possible you got a bad one and the piston is binding or jamming somehow. I've had similar issues with remanufactured calipers before. Once in a while a bad one slips through. Good luck

Yes go ahead put new calipers on "both" sides. Too risky to drive with poor braking.

Concur. Complete front brake job and rear brake check.
