5.3 Borla ATAK cat-back install

I found it much easier to use a socket and a wrench on those bolts. Those are the hitch mounting bolts and you can reach the head of the bolt with a wrench inside the frame rails easily.

 

After I figured out the bolt had a head on top I actually did that. Still sucked though and wasn't anywhere in the directions.

Dual Behind Tires Exit. 2 pipes, 1 behind each tire.

The stock setup is single passenger side so Borla includes a hanger with the kit to hang the drivers side pipe. It's well planned just not good directions.

Make sure to check the alignment where the front pipe attaches to the stock flange. There is a frame crossmemeber and my borla started running on the frame. You have to get the alignment just right. Also make sure you go back after first week and once a month and retorque all the clamps. Mine constantly came loose.

I contacted Borla today to get some info on what exhaust system I needed for my truck

Also any difference at all with the duel exit rear vs the single out to the side? I believe it's about the same thing because it's still using one muffler the ATAK with 2 exit pipes on both types, more thinking performance but both should be about the same. Just preference I believe.

I spent lots of time trying to get the dual rear tailpipes to line up just right. If you tow, definitely go the dual exit behind the right wheel. Nothing is worse than hooking up a camper and burning your calf on a hot exhaust tip, and the noise echoes bad off the back of the trailer with dual rear.

I got dual exit behind both tires for sound dispersion, crowd pleasing, and so I could hear it. I don’t even understand why they have the option to exit on the passenger side only. Makes no sense to me. I’m paying for it to hear it and for it to be heard by all. And man does the ATAK do the job! From stock it’ll take some getting used to but after a few days you’ll love it. You’ll love pushing the gas pedal more and thus hate stopping for gas more. Lol. It’s a love hate relationship with 99% love.

There are lots of videos on YouTube, this one I think is pretty good. But I will say they do NOT do the atak justice, it sounds so much better in person.
