Back Steering Wheel Bow Tie

Wondering if anyone has successfully changed the textured gold bow tie emblem on the steering wheel to black?

 

I see on Amazon there is a sticker you can buy but don't think that would work due to the textured surface?

I have white vinyl on mine. Looks good and no problems with it sticking.

I have vinyl on mine. Looks good. I tried plastidip and the edges weren't sharp enough to come off cleanly. No problems with adhesion.

Where did you two end up getting the vinyl? Was it a pre-cut bow tie, or did you cut it yourself?

could do plastidip or just get a small piece of vinyl and then cut it out yourself. take about 5 mins.

I tried Plastidip as well and it was not as clean as I had liked, so I removed it. I did my front/rear bowties and they look awesome, but I think because it was so small it was difficult to get the same lines. I ended up leaving mine gold, but a vinyl decal would do too. Use some heat and it should wrap around the texturing just fine.

 

Alternatively: Use a felt pen

This truck was already done when I bought it, But I did my wife's Equinox in pink carbon fiber vinyl from eBay. They usually give you two pieces big enough to do each one in the front and back, and there's enough left over to do the wheel. Trick is to put some heat on it after it's on.

I put a precut black vinyl one on mine. Use a heat gun and it will actually pick up the texture and look great.

Did some reading and watched sone youtube videos on applying vinyl so may tackle. Seems I need to find thin vinyl so it works better with the textured surface.

 

Huntr1117, where did you find the pre cut vinyl for the steering wheel? I found stickers on Amazon but they're decals and not vinyl.

I got the ones on Amazon from reflective concepts. They say decals but they are precut vinyl. The backing says 3m on the back. Here's a pic of mine installed. I'm sure if I would have taken my time it would have been a perfect fit. You can just barely see gold if you're looking for it, but I'm good with it. They even send you 2 in case you mess it up. I think it was well worth the $7.50

Also I could only find their overlay decal which says it is for 2007-2013 trucks. I assume this is the one you got, and Chevrolet didn't change the bowtie dimensions?

07-13 is a whole different animal. Bowtie isn't one separate piece like 14-up.

It's flat black. I ordered it off Amazon last Dec. It says for 2014-2017. It doesn't look like they list it anymore. Even on their website. I would just email reflective concepts directly and see what they say.
