Question for anyone who has changed their spark plugs

Ordered some new ACDelco 41-114 spark plugs for my Sierra. I'm at 103,000 miles and plan to change them soon. The rear plugs closest to the firewall look a little tricky to get to. Curious if anyone has changed theirs and if they had any issues getting to them. Though maybe removing the inner fenders might be an option to make things easier.

Thanks!

You might be surprised to learn that spark plug locations can be different on different model vehicles with different engine options. Help us help you. Tell us what you are working on and what engine.

When I did mine on my 14 Silverado 6.2 I accessed them from the top easily. I think it was the drivers side next to the fire wall that was the hardest but all in all pretty straight forward job. You could go through the inner fenders and make it easier but not needed. I also did plug wires while I was at it.

Nonsense to some of these responses!

Use a locking stubby 3/8 to 3/8 square extension! It will always stay together. Use a 3/8 to 1/4 that's right 1/4 torque ratchet. Your only going to 15 FT/LBS or 180ish in/LBS NO anti-seize required! **** that I always do and torque extra 1LB to 16 FT/LBS

Use the Plug socket with locking 3/8 to 3/8 stubby extension on CYLINDER #8 with only a 3/8 to 1/4 Knuckle adapter and use the 1/4 torque ratchet for that.......That is the one closest to passenger seat!

Also check the 41-114 plugs.......Many are shit! the Ground Electrode or curved piece is off center by .100" on some plugs! I repeat do not use those plugs.......talk about trying to find drivability issue you will never find it!

You might be surprised to learn that most people posting have vehicle details listed under "Drives:" on their profile, or on their signature line at the bottom of the post. That is, unless you are speed reading to do as many snarky posts as possible, and missed seeing it.

Well I decided to change them tonight. Wasn't too bad. A few scraped knuckles and some choice words and I had them all replaced in a couple hours. Did the driver side first. The steering shaft get's in the way a little. Definitely recommend having a universal joint adapter. Had to use that on a couple cylinders. The very back plug on the passenger side gave me the most trouble. Hard to reach and not much room to work with. Putting the truck on ramps and going underneath to get that one may have made things easier. Took it for for a test drive afterwards. Runs the same (no problems beforehand).

I took pics of the plugs and used my endoscope to take pics inside the cylinder. Will post those in another thread later.

You could have run the plugs a bit longer, but there is no harm in changing them out. At least now you know they are in good shape and they wont need to be replaced any time soon. Mine were the same way when I replaced them. As i'm sure you would agree, after getting them out - there is no way the same plugs are going back in, even if they do have a little life left in them.

Yes definitely. After a rebate, I paid $22 for 8 plugs so I'm not out much. Not something I'll have to do again on this vehicle.

Still best to post vehicle info. The info you reference isn't always able to be seen on different viewing devices

Are the K2's harder to change plugs on them the GMT900's? I was kinda dreading it on my 2011 6.2 but when I changed them at about 100,000 miles I was surprised how easy it was. Had it done in about 45 mins just laying across the top of the engine to reach the harder ones.
