REALLY NEED TO FFIGURE THIS OUT

Are the power door locks Negative Trigger, Positive trigger, or reverse polarity door locks. I'm trying to install an alarm and can't figure it out. It's for a 2001 Sierra 1500. THANKS!!

The door locks are 3 wire positive (Positive pulse door locks). The unlock and lock wires are at the drivers side in a large brown plug at the fuse panel. The unlock wire is white and lock is light blue. What kind of alarm are you installing?

Hey, thanks a ton for the responses. I am trying to help a buddy install an alarm and we can't figure out which type of trigger it is. I'm not sure about type of alarm but it's pretty cool. It has autostart, the ability to roll down the windows, and a pager-like thing that will alert you what part of your car has set off the alarm. It's like the one that JPCustoms sells. It's cool.

The alarm install manual should say what polarity the pulses are. It might say on the back of the brain also. Do you want me to email you an install guide for your truck?? I have one I got off eBay a while back. Helped me out a TON! I love having remote start now. I dont have the pager deal though.

NOTE: Newer GMs need a special module for auto start and door lock etc.

with most aftermarket remotes. Mostly because of the pos. ground door locks.

I found this out with my 97. Some mfrs. have GM specific remote starter

applications so they just plug in and NO cutting etc. to mess with. Others sell the module seperate but are a PIA !

Digging for some old threads on this and will post!................geo

EL.....You might want to try the search function here at GMTC. There are

LOTS of posts on remote starts........Search for: remote starters

If you go to the BCM (body control modual) you can hook up locks very easily there. This chart works for 2001 and 2002 GM pickups. Make sure you test the wires I listed below to verify. If this is not enough to complete your install then take it to a pro.

Vehicle Notes:

This vehicle is equiped with GM's PASSLOCK II passive anti-theft system. Check alarm diagram before any remote start install.

*- The 4.3 V6 engine still uses a single coil on the engine, tach wire is white. On V8 engines, there is a coil for each cylinder each with a 4 pin plug. Each plug contains a black, brown, and pink as well as a fourth wire which changes color on each coil. This fourth wire can be used as your tach reference, set your remote starter for a one cylinder signal.

**- In the 24 pin plug on the far left.

***- Tan (drivers door) is in the 16 pin plug on the far right and the blue/white (passenger door) is on the 24 pin plug in the center of the module.

****- Located in the 16 pin plug on the far right. Pulse the tan wire at the same time as the lock wire to arm the factory alarm. Pulse ground to the lt green wire

to disarm the alarm.
