Thanks for the info, looks like the run 3.42 in the 4wd Eassisst which means there would atleast be a tune out there for that, and they make an adapter to run a 5th wheel on short box beds now. I know it's not ideal and if i had it to do all over again i would have when 3/4 ton. I just need that little bit extra to help get it to the deer lease and back twice a year.

The tongue weight of a fifth wheel is approximately 20% of the weight of the trailer.  What is the payload of your truck?  My truck's payload would be exceeded by a considerable amount just with the tongue weight of your proposed trailer.  I would keep your truck stock and trade it for a 2500 or a 3500.  Another option would be to buy a travel trailer that meets the towing limits of your current truck.

It's 2wd, and Hurricane Harvey hit and we needed a trailer, after i already bought the truck a week before. I just need to know if it's physically possible to run the 3.73 gears with that Eassisst on the truck and it being the 8spd transmission, since Chevy only offers Eassisst with 3.08 and 8spd trans. I know its not a true hybrid, its the standard 5.3l V8 with a generator and i think lithium batteries, but i don't know if it will effect how it charges or uses that battery power with i swap gears.

According to the order guide #E-assist is only offered with 3.42's.  It was posted above, but here it is again.  The RPO code is PCQ.

You can look at label in glovebox and verify the ratio in the truck.

1 - Includes (GU6) 3.42 rear axle ratio. Requires T*15543 Crew Cab models and (PDT) SLT Crew Cab Premium Plus Package. Not available with (Z71) Off-Road package or (RC7) 20” Tires. Not available with any free flow packages or RPO options other than (K05) engine block heater and (VK3) front license plate kit. No substitutions of the above required or included equipment.

OP is in a bind. Bought the truck and a week later the 5th because of Harvey.

It's not ideal, but he could swap out to a 3.42 and get a sliding 5th wheel for the short box. He can get away with it twice a year, so long as the deer lease is close by.

I have a friend that picked up a pallet of sod in his GMT-800 1500 with the 4.3 V-6 and drove it (on the bump stops) about 30 miles. As long as the OP is not going far and isn't driving it like he stole it, it should be fine.

Pic isn't of my friend's truck, just some random truck full of cinder blocks I saw a while back.

Op said he was about to buy a 5th wheel trailer so I'm curious if he followed through with the purchase.  Installing a sliding hitch and a new differential is a significant amount of cash that could help offset a vehicle trade.  Driving overloaded for short distances may reduce the chances of a breakdown but doesn't make the trip any safer.  I have driven trucks loaded to the bump stops in the past and would never endorse anyone doing this or purposely do again myself.  It is not only the driver and  passengers that are at risk in an overloaded vehicle.

My code is GU4, it's a 3.07 not a 3.42. I decided to sell and get a 3/4 ton.

Ultimately the best decision. [emoji1303]

If a gasser, make sure it has 4.10s...this is supposed to be the only consumer option, but some 3.73 fleet trucks slip through the cracks.
