2015 Silverado Instrument Panel Lighting/Dimming

Just purchased a 2015 Silverado LT and there appears to be a problem with dimming the Dash Backlights (and Radio/Screen.) On an overcast day, with the headlight switch in "auto" mode, the instrument panel back lights go to full bright, and I am unable to dim them from the dimming control wheel to the left of the headlight switch. If I toss my hat over the sensor on the dash the instrument panel lights will go into "dimming mode" (for lack of a better term,) and I have full control of the intensity via the dimming control wheel again.
Please note that the truck came with extremely dark tint on the real window glass, but I do not think that is the problem, since throwing my hat over the sensor essentially corrects the problem.

i have the same issue with my 2014 and was told that this is how it works and there is nothing you can do to change it

I responded to your post over on GMInsideNews.  Check the ambient light sensor on the dash.
