Upgrading speakers in non-bose worth it?

Damn, $50 for some foam rings.. hopefully I’ll be doing my speakers in the spring. I’ll be going a different foam route. Lol.

About 2 weeks ago i replaced my stock speakers with Memphis Audio 6x9 front and 6 3/4 rears, stock head unit and everything else the same.

I used dynomat on the exposed section of metal where the speaker brackets mount and it was a good tight fit, no rattles. I did NOT use any foam rings.

 

Results: The sound is cleaner, highs are higher naturally and the bass hits nice. One thing i noticed was that i now turn the volume up, way up to get good loudness compared to before.

Can this be caused from not using the foam? Am i loosing some sound inside the door? Also did NOT use any pockets behind the speakers which might help direct sound perhaps.

Its still a worthwhile upgrade and i will do it again.
