4 wheel drive problem

Just bought truck not too long ago, 1993 z71 Silverado with a 5.7. Anyways, first time I put it into 4 wheel drive I was going up a slightly inclined hill. Mind I have 33 inch thunderer mts on it, and it’ll spin them easy. Well I went to put it into 4lo, so I turned the truck off like I was taught to, put it in neutral and moved the floor shift to 4lo, and heard a loud thud. And my parking brake light came on, and it would hardly turn the tires at all, so I figured I’d let off if it and let it roll back down, turned it off in neutral and when i went to put it back into 2hi, it grinded and got stuck, so I put it back into 4lo, waited a minute and tried it again. And it grinded but was able to go back into 2wd. And heard a loud thud. Brake light still didn’t go off, wasn’t engaged. And on my way home, the brakes were hardly working, had to press almost all the way down to the floor to get it to slow down. Any info on what could’ve happened is greatly appreciated!

First off, to shift into 4-Low, all you have to do is slow to a stop, bump the truck into neutral while its running and shift it. Then you should be able to take off in drive.  The braking and the grinding from the transfer case sound like they could be different issues.  Have you checked your brake fluid or the brake system itself?  Also checking the transfer case fluid would be a good start.
