yes ... 2 cycles of 10 min .....then you must turn ignition on with key to reset

on a side note .....when you stop vehicle and put in park .......push lock button..then hold auto start button till lights flash ... then turn off key and remove ... vehicle will continue to run for 10 min ....

after you get out ... ( nice to keep it thawing while you run in and get your 6 Pack for Friday nite ..)

The interior is perfectly fine after 10 minutes but sometimes I get caught up at work or home before I can make it to my vehicle in 10 minutes.

I like learning new stuff about my truck. What is the advantage of achieving 210 degrees? I was once led to believe that there was no need to "warm-up" these engines prior to driving. I usually wait until the defrost is warm enough to keep the windows clear.

Vehicles run at peak efficiency when they are thoroughly warmed up to operating temp --- tranny, everything. When first starting out in the cold it's best not to drive it hard (freeway for instance) right away.

But it takes longer to reach operating temp while idling as opposed to driving. And the transmission will never reach temp idling.

No, it will not achieve operating temp while idling in the winter time however I have read that it is not good to run a GDI engine and have it shut down before it reaches operating temperature. The reason is because of carbon build up won't get hot enough to burn off. Once the build up cools down, it is much harder to remove.

That's what I've read but I don't know for sure.

That's good to know! I always keep my key separate from my remote, the doors remote lock with the ignition on and the vehicle running. This is perfect for dropping my kids off in the sub-zero mornings and a bit safer, I might switch to your method.

Great information. This will come in handy every morning when I'm stopping at 7-11 on my way to work.

Having it idle to operating temperature is not the goal. Warm up enough to be tolerable and drive somewhat gently for the first couple of minutes. Driving for a period of time at operating temperature is best. Short trips kill.

"Short trips kill" is a strong statement that would benefit from clarification, imo. Both terms "short trips" and "kill" mean different things to different people when used to describe how we use our trucks. I would consider 95% of my driving to be short trips but haven't changed an engine since 1971. (My engine wasn't dead then, either) I appreciate that an engine running at optimal temperature, under optimal load, for an optimal amount of time will stand a better chance of achieving optimal efficiency. However, I think these trucks are a lot tougher than many of us give them credit. I drove my last two GM 1500's well past 100k miles and see both of them still on the road.

I doubt there will be any long term impact on your drive train by driving as soon as your windows are cleared. Idling unnecessarily is a waste of fuel, not to mention the environmental impact. I appreciate that driving a truck as a grocery getter does not demonstrate my commitment to clean air but I don't go out of my way to waste.
