Silverado "Custom"

I just recently learned that the newer half ton Silverados offer a Custom trim level, which is basically a package available with the LS that gets you body colored bumpers/grille, and 20" wheels. I think it's a GREAT looking truck, and still gets you the 5.3 V8 and 4WD without a bunch of extra options you may not want or need. What do you guys think about these? They seem like a solid value IMO.

I found one pretty local to me for a decent price.....

Opinions? At first I was dead set on a '10-'13 Sierra 6.2, but I really like the looks of the '16+ Silverado and it seems like a better value when you consider age and mileage.

I saw those at a local dealer also. I thought it was a good thing also for people that want a nice looking truck outside but a not many options. I thought it was something that only my local dealer was doing.

If I wasn't so picky I probably would of ended up with a Custom. I decided on a regular cab LT almost loaded. My thinking was I want to keep the truck until the wheels fall off so why settle with something that I know I wouldn't be happy a few years down the line. The Custom is a nice looking truck but lacks options, if you looking for something similar then the Custom has your name all over it.

The Silverado Custom is the equivalent of the Sierra Elevation. They really offer a lot of value and I love my Elevation. Sure they don't have a lot of the extra options but if you don't need all of that they are great trucks.

The thing about these trucks are that you can probably get a LT Z71 with the All Star package for close to the same price after package discounts.

All depends where you live and when you buy. I am only 30 minutes from Laura Buick GMC and I can tell you no where around here was even close to what I paid for my Elevation. I did look at the Silverado's as well, albeit not the Custom. But the LT z71's we looked at were substantially more expensive. They were nicer optioned trucks I will admit, but a lot of the extra's weren't necessary for me personally.

I have a custom. I would have rather have a LT due to fog lights. Back up camera. But I found it for a great price and was more in my price range since I’m a 21 year old. Definitely recommend for someone who likes the body match but without every single option the LT has

Definitely one of the things I preferred about the Sierra is the Elevation does come with fog lights. I am surprised you don't have a back up camera though, my Elevation has it as well as all the others I looked at.

Fog lights are a nice aftermarket modification but an integrated backup camera should be standard equipment. (I believe this is in the works)  Most items listed as standard features on the Custom/Elevation would be in the options column when many of us were 21!

I wish the camera came standard. It should be. Definitely helpful when backing up to my trailer but for now just gotta eye ball it zq

The only options I would care about are remote start and backup camera, but it wouldn't bother me if I didn't get them. Hell, my current daily is an '89 work truck. The only options are air conditioning and FM radio! The standard options on a 2016 Silverado LS/Custom would be enough for me. Bells and whistles are nice, but the added cost isn't always worth it. I'm more interested in the appearance and the V8/4WD/etc.

Remote start was the one thing I really would have liked but wasn't a deal breaker. My dealer will install the GM kit for $450 parts and labor included, definitely something I plan to add in the future.

I agree with your comments.  Your '89 work truck was probably an upper trim level in its day.  Another comparison worthy of note is that the V6 found in today's GM 1500's produce 75 more horsepower than the optional 5.7L V8 in 1989.  I am mentioning this because there are a lot of variables to consider when buying a truck.  The priorities reflected on this forum don't always cover everybody's preferences.    I don't have a V8 in my truck, but I have, fogs, remote start, back up camera, 4X4, 8" display, leather etc.  I know the significance of V8 ownership and appreciate that for many this is critical in their truck buying decision. I'm simply suggesting that there is a plethora of packages and configurations in the Sierra/Silverado lineup that are available.  There is still probably a great selection of '17's available that have all of your preferred options at a "Custom" price.  Good luck with your search!
