Chevrolet1698 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 The message “BATTERY NOT CHARGING” shows up with the battery light flashing in my ‘04 Silverado. I replaced the battery on 11/29/17 and it didn’t remedy the problem, yet I still have good alternator voltage at 14.75. I was told it’s parasitic draw, in which something is taking power away from another source. In this case, the battery. I’m thinking I have a relay or switch bad somewhere in the electrical system. Is that indeed the cause? If so, what relay/switch?
dsr611 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 You're going to have to start troubleshooting. I doubt there's anyone on here that can tell you which switch/relay it may be just from your post. https://www.wikihow.com/Find-a-Parasitic-Battery-Drain
davester Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 Sounds like either a bad connection between the battery/alternator (power and/or ground), or there is a problem with the voltage-sensing part of the truck. Normally, a "parasitic draw" is when something in your continues to use power after you shut your truck off, which is not the case (at least, it's not what the DIC "battery not charging" message is about). Battery not charging generally is when one of the trucks computers (ECM, maybe BCM) measures the voltage it is getting for power, and it's less than some minimum voltage. Given that you have somehow determined the alternator is putting out 14.75 volts, you need to figure out why the rest of the truck isn't getting it.
BlueCollarCowboy Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Have you taken the alternator to a local parts store to have the alternator tested because just because you have voltage doesnt me you have amperage. Any good parts store will test it for you for free.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S8 using Tapatalk
