So I filled my truck ('14 Sierra 5.3L V8) up with gas on this past Wednesday and i drove a total of 205 miles from Wed-Fri.  As of right now, my fuel range says 43 miles left and the tank is on E!  On a fill up my fuel range usually says i get about 400 miles on a full tank.  Can anyone help me to determine what may be happening?

TIA

Crappy fuel....remember after hurricane harvey the EPA waivered all fuel regulations allowing highly volatile smog creating crap for Alabama gasoline.....now....that waiver may or may not still be in effect.....but you’ve been running non Tier 2 emissions fuel thru yer vehicle cuz of it.....and possibly.....your emissions system crapped the bed ......causin poor fuel exonomy

Article says it was an emergency hurricane relief declaration, ending last fall.

i don’t believe you can buy “highly volatile smog creating crap” anywhere in this nation.  Even down south.

Elon Musk will surely have a pickup truck soon....take care of that Sierra...you’ll get top dollar on the trade!

Why am I seeing such a difference in Fuel Range vs the “Trip”? The trip shows I traveled 10 miles and the fuel range dropped nearly 20 miles.

The Trip value is for actual miles traveled. Point A to Point B.  The fuel range is an estimated calculated value based upon computer estimated gas mileage values (not a real value, it is estimated)  So if it shows you have 50 miles to empty as  the estimated fuel range value and you decide to hook up a 8000lb trailer and run the truck up to 90mph for 10 miles (pushing a brick through the air) you might travel those 10 miles but lose 35 miles in fuel range. That is an extreme example of course.....little things like headwind/hilly terrain/fast speed can greatly affect the fuel range but has absolutely no affect on the trip odometer which simply records distance traveled.

Winter blend fuels along with colder weather and the use of remote start will really kill the gas mileage on vehicles. Winter blend fuel and cold weather alone with kill it, the colder it is the more fuel the ECM dumps into the mix.

Is it cold where you are?  Lots of remote start time?

Very cold...last few days in the 20s to 30s
