mychevrolet app

I am new to the wonderful world of GM trucks. Just got my 2018 Silverado 1500 LTZ about a week and a half ago. I down loaded the mychevrolet app, who wouldn't, but now wondering if I need to keep on star. I am paying enough for this truck and have AAA so I don't really see a need for on star, but I do love the fact that I can start my truck a half mile away and have nice and warm by the time I get there. Am I going to loose this app after I discontinue my trial period of onstar? Not a deal breaker. Still not going to pay for a service that I do not need, but I do love this app.

Ive been on basic since mine ran out sometime in 2015. You Still can remote start and send destinations to nav in truck for sure.

I believe they give you 5 years of the basic OnStar that's what I got on my 2015 which allows me to use the very basic simple OnStar services. We subscribed to the wifi a couple of months ago for $20 a month but we never use it because our phones are just very capable to do pretty much everything else. I really believe OnStar should just be free if you buy a GM product. I don't know anyone that subscribes to the full service. But it is pretty cool to be able to have the basic service. We have since then eliminated the Wi-Fi service and don't know the difference of having it and not having it.

Like previously mentioned it's a 5 year free basic service from the date of manufacture of the vehicle. It doesn't matter how long you've owned the vehicle. I have the basic and only use the app on my phone to start my truck in my building at work other than that I never use the damn thing. I attempted to install an aftermarket remote start I had in my previous truck in my silverado and failed since it would only turn on the accessories and not try to crank the engine. I am going to attempt that again in the spring/summer to see if with another brand bypass module I can get the truck to actually start up. I'm hoping I do because it's a security and remote start combo and I can get up to a mile range so I can still start the truck in my building at work, plus I wouldn't have to worry about the whole 10 minute remote start nonsense from the factory where it runs for no more than 20 minutes and you have to hit the button for remote start twice, it's super annoying.

Chris White at white auto and media can reprogram the remote start time for you. I think he goes by gtprix on here.
