Power Door Locks

My power door locks quit working, but only when using the key FOB (or the one on my wife's key chain). The panic button still works, but the lock and unlock buttons don't. From in the truck, the lock and unlock buttons work and the auo lock works. I've checked fuses, and found none bad. I doubt that both our key FOB batteries went bad at the same time, plus they are only 5-6 months old and the panic button still works. I disconnected my GM VSC 3400 alarm to see if that caused any problem, but the same results, no lock/unlock from the key FOB's.

 

Could this be a bad BCM? Anyone else have any ideas?

By the way, everything else on the trucks seems to be working fine.

I had trouble with my unlock button. It would hardly work took about 5 presses then it would work and that was only standing next to it. The lock would work from anywhere (practically) I changed the battery and it worked fine.

Had the same problem with the fob from my '99 Suburban. They can be really touchy. Take the fob apart and check the contact points. I cleaned mine with a little alcohol and cotton swab. Placement of the little metal tabs in there are very critical. had to take mine apart a couple of times and adjust before getting it to work. If you find out that the fob is defective, people sell them on Ebay pretty cheap, but they have to be reprogrammed. This dealer will rake you about $40 to do it,but I understand its fairly simple to do yourself. Also did you try holding both the unlock and lock buttons (for several seconds) down to cycle the locks? sometimes that works too.

Yes, I tried that with both FOB's, with no luck. Locks didn't cycle.

I'm having the same problem with the blazer .

 

Tried to reprogram all 3 remoets after putting in fresh bateries and all 3 of them still only work when your about 10 ft away from the vehicle .

they used to work from a long ways away (most I did was about 100 yards)

I've tried standing right up next to the truck and even sitting in the truck, but get nothing from the key fob's but the panic button to work.

 

I've got a hunch it's the BCM, unless there is something else I don't know about. If it is the BCM, I'll just pick up one from Ebay off of a Tahoe or Suburban and get a few features I didn't get with my '99 Silverado.

 

I hope it's as simple as the BCM, or even simpler.

One of my batteries died on me, and I replaced the battery in it, and now it doesn't work. Can someone PM me the techinque to reprogram it? And, do I need to do both remotes at once? Please keep in mind that I don't have key holes in the handles since I have the Escalade passenger handles, so I can't get in if I need to with the key. Thanks.

To resynchronize, hold the lock and unlock buttons on the FOB for about 7 second, the locks should cycle to let you know they are programmed. I'm pretty sure you can do each FOB seperately.

My guess is it's not the BCM, but the keyless entry receiver module.

 

Keyless entry receiver has 3 wires, +12V, Ground, and DATA.

The single DATA wire connects to the BCM. The keyless entry module picks up the RF signal from the key FOBs, decodes it, then sends commands to the BCM via DATA wire.

 

I think a bad keyless receiver is more likely. They sit at the top of the dash and see a lot more heat than the BCM does. You can see it (and remove it) if you pull the instrument cluster, the keyless receiver will be mounted on top of a metal brace to the top right of the cluster, just under the upper dash panel.

 

I have seen these modules for sale on Ebay. Just be aware that 99-00 has a different receiver than 01-02. You can use a receiver module for the wrong year, but then you would have to switch remotes too (99-00 are made by UTA, 01-02 are made by LEAR). So it's easier/cheaper to stick with the same part # unless you happen to find a module that comes with key FOBs too. Just a FYI, the LEAR receiver modules have a gray top cover and black body, while the UTA ones are all black.

 

Also, if it's like any other Delco electronics, it can probably be repaired by disassembling it and resoldering the circuit board.

Same thing happened to a co-worker of mine with both of her remotes. I tried everything for her and nothing worked. Finally figured it was keyless receiver. Brand new they are about $75 and that is getting them on line at either GM Parts Direct of PartsZone. I was going to change hers but she didn't want to spring for the $75 for the part. If you do find it cheaper let me know and I'll have her get a new one.

Hey thanks. I saw the second one. I didn't find the first one but that one comes with the two remotes and is a good deal. I talked to the co worker and will probably go ahead and get the first one with the two remotes.

 

BUT, since Tom started this thread I wanted to extend the courtesy to him first and if he is going to bid on this then I won't bid against him. Just let me know Tom because if you're not interested in this then she will get it Monday.
