My Dad is experiencing a loose steering column in his truck. He says he gets a good 1/4" of play that is really annoying. He looked around to remove any column panels, but says he couldn't find any screws to remove the panels. . I told him it's prob the loose nut behind the wheel...haha. Seriously tho, has anyone experienced this and know the fix?  I tried a search here, a Google search and a YouTube search that yielded nothing.

I one time tried to turn my wheel with the truck stationary and the engine off.

Obviously it was a complete bear to turn, and the freaking steering column started twisting.

can’t help you, but I can say it’s definitely not “locked” in there

Start by telling me what loose means. In and out, up and down, or Side to side? There are bushings in there. Also 2 huge bolts and 2 huge nuts. But there are 2 torque head button screws under the knee pad. And then few clips. I had a issue of tight shift after steering shaft lowering and it was a binding bushing.

Don't ask how I know....52a1f9a6c0d18cd9a3bfe9061005709d.jpg

Steering wheel in locked position. If you try to turn the wheel right or left, that's where the play is. So, side to side.
