Low Coolant Message

This weekend I got a low coolant error message while crusing down the highway. The temp gauge did not indicate it was overheating. I pulled over to check it out. The coolant level was normal and no hoses were leaking. No visual signs of overheating. WTF? I drove the 3 hr. trip home and it did not repeat. I'll take it to the dealer tomorrow, but wondering if anyone else has experienced this wierd problem?

Sounds like a faulty sensor. I know it is a pain in the rear but if it is still under warranty then get it replaced or at least documented.

Glad that it wasn't any thing more and didn't over heat.

This has happened to me twice in the last year. I added a little more fluid and the light hasn't been back on since. I got the "Your truck must have been on a slight incline" :D speech from the dealer. They told me if it happens again to take it in and they'd look into it more. As of right now I’m still waiting for the light to come back on.

Just as I thought. I'm hoping it's just the sensor, and the dealer replaces it. I don't want a BS story from them. :D Thanks for the replies....

I have had this light come on a few times, but honestly after going down a slope where the truck has to lean hard to the right, then it comes on. It started coming on more often, so I went to wal mart and bought the prestone gm-dex cool certified crap, and poured it in the plastic tank on the left of the truck (opposite the battery), and I haven't seen the light since. There is a cold mark on that tank, and mine was below it, so I filled it up to that mark, and no problems since.

Mine has come on twice in just over 2 years. I keep planning on taking it in to get it fixed... I always seemed to think it was a sensor, because the tank is always full.

Mine came on yesterday too.. There was still about a inch and a half of coolant in the bottom. But I filled it up and it has not come back on since. So I assume mine was low at a inch and a half?

Chevy 1500 HD,

I think yours was probably way low. If I can remember isn't the cool line located about half tank at the seem? That would probably cause your to go on.

Just to add a follow-up... The dealer inspected the cooling system and said there is "no problem". They would not replace the sensor, no matter how hard I argued. Actually, I think I pissed service writer off. Check this out. They offered me a free oil change if I completed the customer survey, and checked "satisfied". Kiss my A@@! I'm going to rip this POS dealer a new one.

That dealer must be getting a lot of negativity. I think a nice little phone call to Corporate to tell them of the "rigging" of the survey card will still get you a free oil change plus and get the dealer in trouble. Hahaha

Yeah, I'm sick of these stealers trying to "candy coat" everything and tell you how to fill out a survey. I mark it lower just by them asking to mark it perfect. I tell them if you want it perfect, the work and service needs to be perfect. When the low coolant light comes on...doesn't it store a code? I would figure they would have to replace the sensor if it gave a false reading. I'd be especially concerned with coolant lights coming on in vehicles with dexcool.

Off subject. Jet X How do you like your Yamaha SuperJet? I use to own a 91 model. I really liked it but when I got orders to Korea I had to sell. I kind of miss the fun with it and all the tricks that I use to think I could do. Maybe some day I can get a new one.

Black02, The old SJ is still fun, although a little slow and dated. The hot ski these days is the newly designed Kawi SX-R. My 14 year old daughter wants to race in the 14-15 year old stock ski class, next year. The SJ won't be competitive. The SJ would be hard to give up, since it has been rock solid since I've owned it.
