Weirdest thing happened -- noticed a strange rattle coming from the driver side door. After some thumping around, I finally noticed through the wire mesh that covers the speakers that the tweeter had fallen out of its designated hole and was laying against the wire mesh. Fortunately I had purchased the Helms manuals which described exactly step by step how to remove the door panel (not very difficult). I discovered that the tweeter is held in place by two cheap plastic bolts that are molded into the tweeter body itself and held in place with what appears to be a plastic, or very thin metal nut. The plastic bolts had both snapped causing the tweeter to hang unattached. Solution - drilled through the plastic body of the tweeter and attached with stainless lock nuts/bolts. Now I'm waiting for the passenger side to go out!

Has anything like this happened to anyone else?

I changed my speakers soon after I got the truck, and one of the tweeters was held on by only one side. The plastic bolt broke off just like yours. I suspect that they are overtightened from the factoy.

Mine broke while trying to take them out.

They weren't in the truck long enough to become a problem!

They are pretty cheesy molds. It must've been "try out the new injection

mold designer day" when those were made.

Same thing here with mine. Driver side was just hanging out. The dealer replaced both the driver side and passenger side speakers under warranty.

Just hope nothing else happens now that the warranty is out.
