I've searched the internet and can't find a definite answer.  Is it suppose to be waterproof?  Does anybody know for sure?

Think I need a smaller truck, it just took 7 1/2 to wash and wax.......

Not supposed to be 100% waterproof per GM.  High Desert trucks built prior to March 1st 2018, do get some help if you have water issues.  See below:

18-NA-135: Water Leaks in Bed Area on Trucks Equipped with High Desert Package

Some customers may comment on finding water leaks in the bed area of their vehicle, which has the High Desert option package.

The cause of the condition may be that the design intent of the High Desert Package is NOT to provide a completely water tight cargo area. The package is designed to have a water management system, but some water may still migrate into the bed area.

A design improvement has been made to all of the service parts listed in the part table below. Follow the Service Procedure below for part replacement and additional steps that can reduce, but not eliminate, water getting into the bed area.

Its just like the avalanche, not 100% but close. You gotta make sure all the tracks and seals are clean, and not folded over which is easy to do putting on a panel wrong. Rain doesnt get in mine, but high pressure sprays from carwash can let a little by. The saddlebags are waterproof though...

we had two at work and they parked them under the only two trees on the lot. The water management drains clogged and  The beds were full of water when a customer finally came in to look at the a few months later.

I owned an Avalanche for 6 years, and never one leak inside the bed with the covers on.

I miss that truck. I wish they made them again.

This High Desert package is similar, but no folding mid-gate. The High Desert exterior looks reminiscent of the old Avvys'

Lol, everyone I know who had one says same thing - miss it. I get tempted with new tech & better mpg, but nothing rides like it, and it just barely fits in garage where a cc truck will not .

Yes sir Texas Daddy....

18" or so overall shorter in length, more nimble and sporty feeling. Tighter turning radius.

Not quite the legroom in the back as the K2 CC's but close enough and worth the trade-off with the folding mid-gate

I could haul a 16' piece of trim or lumber with the mid-gate and tailgate down.

Rode like a dream, especially the rear coil over suspension and also if I am not mistaken, more towing capacity than a 1/2 pickup at the time.

It books at a 4 hour job, looks like you have to totally dismantle the insert.  Might as well have it done, may not make it totally waterproof but it might make it better and if GM is going to cover it...why not.

I went to the dealer today and took a look at the tsb. The problem it attempts to fix is the four drains, 2 front and 2 back all can clog. It has you take almost the entire thing apart and make the hole bigger. Also, had you add some shims so that the three hard panels lock down tighter.

I am having them order the shims, but after spending the afternoon unclogging the drains, I feel like I need that done too.

Look up avalanche bed slide. The best mod ever for one of these designs.
